running cold

hi ive searched but no on seems to have my problem. i'm worried my car runs too cool? its an 87 tII i know, i know i'm blessed, but i have to beat on it to make it go above a quarter high on the stock temp gauge, even in thirty degrees celcius. and when you open the hood it feels way cooler than my friends tII's. now i shouldn't complain but should i watch out for carbon build up or some other low heat related problem like that? do alot of people have tIIs that run really cold? its a summer thermostat i think. thanks guys

I've never heard of running too cold being a problem on anything other than your gas mileage. Get an aftermarket guage, a new stock sensor ($12 USD), and that way you'll be sure of what's going on.

You should be running at around a quarter on the gauge no matter how much load is on the engine. Your thermostat is probably stuck wide open, so the engine is being overcooled. This will cause the ECU to run the motor rich, which increases fuel consumption and engine wear and reduces power. Get a new Mazda thermostat.

should really get aftermarket guage also...
