rubber undertray, how important is it?

On my '86GXL the rubber undertray has come loose and is dragging on the ground. When I put an engine in it a couple of years ago I remember a lot of the bolts broke because they were rusted. How important is this, can I take it off without any cooling problems??

It actually keeps it MUCH cooler in the engine bay. I would fix it ASAP.

I've run mine with and without. The engine runs cooler with the tray on. 'nuf said.
The bolts are abailable at any parts store.

My car used to run at 195*F on the highway w/the A/C on. Now it's more like 185 in teh same situation.

I guess it does its job

yeah you need to fix it or replace it for sure. big difference in cooling

I've read that it also decreases the CD by .01.

Perhaps most important, it protects road debris from flying up and cutting your oil cooler lines. I have heard of this happening on more than one occasion.

My T2 came without one when I baught it 1 year ago and Ive seen no negative effects.

I've got 4 black zip ties holding mine on (ALL the bolts broke off inside the holes) on my white '90 TurboII.. that should tell you how important it is.
