Rubber or steal oil seals
I just had a brouse for some seal kits etc. Just wanna know what type of oil control seals people use. The shop I looked at had rubber or steal. Whats better?
There is 8, 4 per rotor. Cheers |
ummm,... both?
|
Yeh, theres an inner seal and an outer seal on both sides of each rotor.
Anyway, the seals have rubber inside them. Kinda like a "U" shape with a thin rubber rod inside it. I have read about viton oil seals, I dont know if it is OEM or Aftermarket. So thats why the guy who posted above me said "both?" |
Check the price of the steel seals and you'll see why people re-use the steel rings as long as they possibly can...
IMO.... if your car has over 100K on it... you should probably replace BOTH, but you always have tho replace the viton o-ring that goes inside the steal carrier ring. |
The steel carriers are often in excellent condition with no signs of wear...
