RTEK Install Questions
 

So I recently purchased the RTEK 1.5 chip for my 91 TII. Im looking to keep her mostly stock hence why I got the 1.5 However, when I received the chip instruction for how to remove the old and install the new was not included. Ive searched high and low on this forum and digital tuning with no success. Does anyone have a detailed instruction on how to install it? I am aware there will be soldering involved. Thanks in advance!

I took 3 years of electronics in High school and that chip install was Frightening.

If you do not have any solder skills then contact the RTEK guy and get them to install it for you.
If you do not have the tools then by the time you get all the stuff needed to install the chip you just spent double what you would have if THEY installed it for you.

A soldering gun will melt the board. You need a iron with a temperature controlled tip and a desoldering tool designed for boards. Send it in. All that equipment costs more than just sending it in.

Better do it quick too, sadly digital tuning is shutting down soon. We're losing Rtek :-(

Unless someone buys it and takes over development, which is an option that has been presented.

RTEK never grew and adapted with the times. Sad to see it go because of the history, but it's day has come and gone. Modern, PnP ECUs are so cheap and do so much more, the need for something like the RTEK becomes less every day.

Personally I am very sad to see them go. It is unfortunate that the support has not been strong enough for it to be modernized. For the cost, plug and play nature, and reasonable range of adjustment, my opinion is that you really can't beat it. Had it been reworked for native android support with the ability to be rid of the AFM and perhaps better resolution and adaptability, I feel like it could have lived on. Hell, it's almost a shame they didn't develop their own standalone to rival others on the market.

Obviously, the amount of time and huge amount of money it would have taken are quite extreme and I have a very limited understanding on what would have really been involved in making it happen. I'm just expressing that I am at least one person in the rotary community that feels it is an unfortunate loss. I am extremely thankful I was able to get my own 2.1 upgrade direct from digital tuning. Even if someday I upgrade to something else, it will go on my shelf of rotary and Mazda related collectibles as a well cared for display piece.

You can only keep up with technology so long before it gets old and goes extinct..

I'm glad they are still around also and NEVER put their instructions on Floppy disc...LOL!
