RPM switch question
 

I plan on attaching the summit racing RPM switch to the black connector coming from the leading coils.

Is there a better place to connect it? Also, will it read it just like it is a 4 cylinder? Or do I need to set the RPM different. I remember reading somewhere that people would set the RPM to something different because of the way the rotary is.

What are you trying to do?

St it to 4 cylinder, and connect it to the black wire at the leading or the yellow/blue wire at trailing.

There doesn't seem to be a way to set it to any number of cylinders. I will re-check the manual though. But it just has two dip switches. One is in thousands... I.E. 2k,3k,4k,5k,6k. The second is in hundreds, 300,400,500,600 - 800.

I currently have it set to 3.8k.

I am going to be using it to switch my air pump for electric aux activation.

Wost case, once I get it in, I will just figure it out by rev'ing and seeing when they open. :)

Ok I checked. It says that the unit is calibrated for 8 cylinder engines. There is no adjusting it. So, what does that mean in terms of what I need to set the RPM to? More or less then desired? Thanks!

Set it to 3800 rpm. and hook up the tach signal like Aaron said. When you turn on the car, the red light on the RPM switch should come on. You can test the switch without having anything hooked up I believe.

Have an assistant rev the engine to ~3800 on the tach (the tach in the instrument cluster is not 100% accurate) and see if the green light comes on. If it doesn't, something isn't set right or your switch isn't hooked in properly.

I will have to wait till my car is running. Currently everything is pulled apart, so I will put the RPM switch in an easy to reach area.
