rpm guage

my rpm guage decided to stop working today. it was jumping when starting the car but as soon as it was started the rpm guage drops to 0. does anyone know what its connected to in the engine bay. i want to check if the connection is loose. any other info would also help. thanks.

Do the rest of your gauges work properly? If not replace the Meter fuse.

If it's just the tach, the Yellow/Blue (Y/L) wire connected to the trailing coil is what provides the tach signal. This wire is part of a four wire plug that is connected to the trailing coil and might need cleaning perhaps.

To prove whether it is the tach or not you could use a method suggested by "Hailers," which involves jumpering a wire from the leading coil bullet connector to the same bullet connector of the trailing coil and removing both the four wire plug and two wire plug of the trailing coil and starting the car and see if the tach works or not. The bullet connector is a single wire connected to each of the coils and it is not connected to anything on one end and this open end of the connector is basically a small open tube and are very easy to find.

Well said. ^^

Also make sure that the trailing coil is bolted down good, that is how it grounds, as you just read, it runs off the trailing coil.
