Rough idle....
Ok.
Heres the story. 89 T2 Car was running fine and then it started blowing EGI fuses. Buddy didnt want to fix it so he was going to sell it to me. A lot happened and he wasnt able to sell it so the car sat...For 9 months. :( I picked it up the other day and brought it home :) Now Ive pulled the plugs and cranked it and you can hear all the individual wooshes ( quite strong actually... ) and the motor ran FINE before it sat so I dont think its blown at all... However the idle is really rough and it wants to kill itself down low ( exactly how it felt when the engine blew on it last time ). However, the wirning harness does have a short in it ( blowing the EGI fuse... ), the MAF isnt connected ( He had an AFC in it but pulled it and never connected the wires again ) and the car has sat for 9 months ( could it be bad gas? ). The only time its rough is down below 1000. It gets up to 2.5k if I tap the throttle very smoothly and even. Havent tried taking it any higher because, as Ive said, its sat for 9 months... Any ideas? |
find the short, reconnect the maf, and get some good gas in there. Eliminate the easy to fix probelms first, then look for others if there are any.

the MAF isnt connected I would get all the wiring straightend out before running it if it were me. Cheers :beerchug: |
Originally posted by HeffBoost There's why it doesn't want to idle. They need that AFM signal. I would get all the wiring straightend out before running it if it were me. Cheers :beerchug: Yeah...I just wanted to make sure it would start. As for the wiring, the haltech is in the mail so Im not really worried about it all ;) :D |
Haltech, nice.

But even with the AFM disconnected, it would still get through the RPM's ok?
It just wouldnt idle? |
Yeah, that seems odd too. Hmm?

had an AFC in it but pulled it and never connected the wires again
when I instaled the wiring for my s-afc i had to cut one of the wires on the harness. After that I decided to see if the car would still run. well i cranked it and it was running fine then it just starded to die on me unless i reved it. I was like oh shit what did I do. but I pluged in the s-afc and then tried to turn here on and she ran fine. if your friend left this wire cut or loose without the s-afc it will probably not run. Well you do not need the afc but you do need to make sure those wires are connected. |
