is this rotor usable?

i recieved this rotor in the mail today, and i was wondering if you could tell me if it's usable or not? the damage isn't extensive enough that it appears that it's been dropped, but something definitely happened. thanks for any imput!

It's pretty amazing to me how soft the metal in a rotor actually is. I had the same problem like that with one and filed the apex groove flush. You don't want the apex seal to bind at all. The biggest problem with that type of dent is making sure the side doesn't bind. Can be quite difficult getting the hole back to a true circle for the corner seal.

File away and see if you can salvage it, if not, make a clock.

Find the buyer and go get your money back.
If it's the shippers fault, file a claim.
That rotor is basically junk.
Even if you manage to fix the apex seal side, the corner seal will still bind.
It's not worth the trouble.

BTW, they look like 3mm milled rotors?

I completely agree my rotor (after i blew up the motor) had had minor damage from a small portion of the apex seal and although the apex seal slot may have been salvagable the corner seal slot would never be bent back to a proper seal, witch left me with a lol CLOCK!!!

since we got that question established i though i would throw this in. i saw some guy at a car show with a rotor necklace and he chromed the rotor it was cool but a clock is a good idea or if you could find a old housing clean it up and the rotor it would make something cool to hang on the wall.

alright, thanks for the replies, everyone, i'll be in contact with the seller. anyone need to get rid of an s5 n/a rotor a-c weight? it just took me quite a while to find this one, so i though i'd ask. off to the for sale section...

is there any way to test if a corner seal will actuall bind, for future reference?

and as for them being milled to 3mm, i'm not sure. is the slot for a 3mm rotor actually 3mm itself? i'll check it out.

yup, it's junk now... :(

Same thing happened to a rotor I opened up. Corner seal was jammed. Had to crack it to get it out. apex seal needed to be forced out as well. Ended up painting the rotor for display purposes.

i'll take it off your hands for $5 and shipping....pm me :) i need to decorate my new apt. so i am looking for rotors and broken turbos...and weirdly enough i have this vision of having shift knobs from every series of rx7's displayed on my wall...call me weird.

drft_180sx 07-30-05 01:00 AM

which reminds me, do you guys know if series 1-3 have different shift knobs? like the s4 and s5 do? wow..now im getting off topic, sorry.
