Hello. I cannot seem to wrap my mind around the millions of fitment threads that have popped up as there are too many variables involved with different vehicles; I.E suspension, fenders rolled, etc.

Anyways, this may not even be the proper section but I am posting from my phone and could not find a more specific section for this question.

On to my question, I really like rota slipstreams and want to put a set on my rx7 fc. I am looking at the size 15x8 +40 (the only offset I can find them in for this size and I insist on a 15x8 for performance purposes). Will this fit?

A simple yes or no will do, with a solution if they will not. I do not want to roll my fenders, but spacers are a possibility.

Now, to continue on, would the high offset (which FC3SPRO explains leads me to believe it would be pretty far inside) make the wheel look stupid and too far inside?

Also, I'm considering a 225/45 vs 205/50 tire size. I don't want ricer stretch nor do I want to feel like I am driving a truck. I will probably lower this car with some linear springs and throw on better shocks down the road, unfortunately my rx7 is modded on a limited income. What size tire would be best for street use with some fun mixed in when I decide to go to track events? I have only tracked it once and it was completely stock. I couldn't have been happier with it without having anything done to it.

Looks are relative to what you desire. I'm not a stance nation guy but some other people are.
Are you talking about a +40 offset? That's essentially what the stock wheels are so it'll go about as far as the normal wheels go. That'll make the wheel fit within the fender.
Be careful on how far you low as well as how much your suspension is going to travel. With any suspension mod, you can push the wheel into the fender walls and even the fender itself under a bump.
Wheel size can be relative to how much power you're putting down and what you're using it for. If you're dealing with mostly stock power, 205s-225s with good tread will keep you happy. Any larger and your tyre will start out performing the car in brief instances.

DON'T DO IT!!!! I had these wheels and they failed due to a GLARING design error

There was a sharp corner from a pocket in the backside of the hub precariously close to the lug holes, leading to one of mine cracking there. Fortunately I figured it out when checking my nut torques at the track and one nut just kept turning. This could have killed me, no joke, if it failed on track.

I read the entire thread.. but now I'm at a loss where I can get some decent 15x8s with good offset and whatnot. This has become a headache.

And too bad Kosei K1's aren't available anymore. I want decent looking 5 spokes or close to that.

Should be plenty of 15x7 or 15x7.5's available.

I wouldn't "limit" yourself to just one size of wheels.

I use 15x6.5" on a stock motor NA FWIW.

The BBS Vert wheels are 15x6.5 with a 40 offset and weigh about 13-15 pounds.
You can toss them around like a frisbee.
I know it's not Slipstreams but they are cheap,lightweight and easily available.

I do not plan to stay at stock power levels so I really would like 8 wide. I still am considering Rota Slipstreams because I have not heard anything regarding this issue that Black91NA had and you would think there are more issues that pop-up than this.

I've searched all over the internet and only found few isolated incidents with Rotas and the same pictures linked. I honestly think it's just a witch hunt.

Do you plan on drag racing or running it at a track?

Me neither. That machined area so close to the bolt holes, no way. And one incident is one too many for me. Who knows how many have effed up and the real cause wasn't found? And I don't like the multi hole pattern wheels. The one size fits all (I know doesn't fit all lol) look doesn't appeal to me.

I have the 'vert wheels, they're good stuff. The wheels are not expensive, but the caps are. But I only have the caps on when I can see the car, lol!

I came across this video as well of these wheels and if you pause at 2:56, you can see the back side of the hub area with that exact same problem on much newer wheels, so it was never corrected.


I got a couple weekends of use out of them and you might get away with it for a time with care and not torquing them much (I was using a torque wrench set to the proper torque spec), but you'd need to keep an eye on it and really, who wants to have to worry about that sort of thing?

In the end, I bought some custom 3 piece 15x9's, since for the track, especially with limited tire choices in 15" sizes, a wider wheel will give more grip. This has been demonstrated in testing with Miatas at very least.

Ironically, the slipstreams are on backorder LOL. So you guys win in the end, it just was not meant to be.


Any suggestions for good looking 15x9s that will fit without any suspension mods or mangling my fenders?

(I'm assuming 15x8s up front because I don't think 15x9 clears stock suspension components)
