"Rolled Fenders" WtF how and waaaa?

Some one please put this into "rolling fenders for idiots" terms for me....

Here's what i gather: you take a specific tool for this and squish the metal from your fenders out to look wider and create more clearance.....? Is this it? How do you do it? Step by step..... Ghetto style or how it's supposed to be done.. and anyone done it to thier fc on here who can explain it better?

ilike2eatricers 03-17-04 02:36 AM

I'm not sure about the actual process but there are 2 methods I believe. Ghetto way or proper way.

Ghetto way= baseball bat
Proper way= renting tool/going to a shop that does it.

It is to give more clearance so you can fit a wider tire/rim.

Madrx7racer 03-17-04 04:35 AM

inside the fender is an extra bit od metal....... looks lie this; pretend this is a fender..........
from this : to this:

. .
. .
. .
. .
__. I.

does that make sense? You get rid of the _ _ and fold it to give yourself like 1.4 of an inch to fit a wider tire.

JGard18 03-17-04 06:12 AM

it won't make the fenders look wider...unless it's a ghetto job.

the profile of you fender is like this:
|
----

bad image, I know...but picture the metal shaped like an L

Basically, you "roll" the tool along the bottom ledge, and make it more like a V

The outside looks the same, but that lip won't be there to rub against your tires. Doesn't give you a hell of a lot of room, but it'll clear another 2 or 3 cm.

there is no visible difference between rolled fenders and stock fenders! can you not read?

take a look at any FC you can find. That is how it would look with rolled fenders.

DC350 03-17-04 09:59 AM

There is a picture of a black FC that resembles a camaro... the thread is called..

"WOW, what kit is this"

it has ghetto rolled fenders

if you roll a fender enough you can tell its rolled. just look at the apexi d1 fd. fenders are rolled alot.

RX-Heven 03-17-04 11:00 AM

There are a few different methods of rolling fenders. Some of which can be very noticable from the outside. Take a look.
You can rent the tool from tirerack.com
This is/was Soul Assassins car

ever tried renting one of those? they are never available and they put a huge hold on your credit card as a deposit or something. the shape looks nice but the metal on soul's car around there looks very very wavy and I wonder if the tool causes that.

Ronac 03-17-04 12:41 PM

After you roll the fenders, you have to bondo and repaint..

that tool is hard as hell to use.

We rolled all four fenders on a WRX last summer, and not one was smooth. That's why you don't want it be obvious from the outside. Very very hard to be smooth.

The tool is just something that hooks up to the hub, then you pull it out and side to side, as a big hard-rubber wheel rolls along your inner fender.

simple solution here: heat gun + baseball bat. forget some giant tool.

if you heat the metal it will bend easier and that (should) keep the waves out. now, i'm talking about just the lip, not the entire fender.
