Rode in the fastest FC3 ever! Ok it was ridiculous!

Our fellow board member, Adam, aka 87 t66 or something, has a turbo 87 FC3. At 380 HP (it's been dyno'd) I have been in slower airplanes.
I still cannot believe the torque @ 4k on the tach.

Well done Adam.

Fast FCs are awesome. Congrats.

i hope you didn't pee on my infini seats :suspect:

Hard to pee when you're too busy crapping your pants!

Now you understand the retardedness of the teenage noobs who want 400-600hp in their street RX-7, despite the fact that they have only had a driver's license for a few months.

I have literally been in slower airplanes with about 1/4 the horsepower, lol.

Yeah, automotive magazine journalists have dumbed-down society enough that most people don't realize that turbos increase torque.

arghx 08-31-09 12:04 AM

the aggressive stock gearing of the FC increase the amount of torque you actually feel in the car, once it gets on boost. I have a friend with a Cummins diesel Dodge Ram that makes waaay more torque than my car. But it has taller gearing because the engine maxes out at something like 1700 rpm, and that means you don't feel all that much when you're inside the cabin. And I'm not even including the weight factor.

Even on stock turbo the T2's are pretty torquey once you crank up the boost. They kick pretty good from about 2500-5500 rpm or so and then fall off pretty hard after that.

rxdrift7 08-31-09 02:05 AM

When do I get a ride? I might steal your seats though.

Agreed with Evil. I drove a 300whp FC and I thought it was pretty damn fast. I wouldn't want anymore than 320 or 350 in a street FC. People also seem to forget power to weight. We don't have the lightest cars ever but they are far from heavy.

sen2two 08-31-09 02:30 AM

Yes 380whp is fast. but after a while, you get use to it and it dosnt feel so fast anymore.

thats why my new goal is 550whp to reach 10's. already had two different 400+ FC's...

Just an FYI on that diesel Ram-You don't feel the speed because it only generates about 245HP, but around 500 ft lb of torque. HP will always win out. The little rotary really doesn't make much torque compared to lets say a V-8. Look at the old 302's with only 210HP, even they had around 300 Ft lb of torque.

Great ride 87 t-66. Always nice to see 18 lbs.

Give us some videos and pictures!

agreed. i think if it was much faster i would get into a lot of trouble and the reliability goes down pretty quick at that horsepower.

the exterior is pretty disappointing to look at right now...im waiting for winter to when i cant drive it so i can get it painted. i might throw up some interior pictures some time soon though.

gxl90rx7 08-31-09 10:51 AM

subaru boxer engines are known for torque, i was comparing my last dyno sheet with a couple EJ20 turbo dynos at around 300whp and mine actually had a better torque curve

but you do get used to it, i thought it was fast as hell at first, it feels slow now

arghx 08-31-09 11:02 AM

uh EJ20's (USDM WRX 02-05) are known for lag, even stock. the EJ25's (USDM 04+ STi, 05+ Legacy GT, 06+ WRX) are a lot better

Pics would be nice. What infini seats are they?

J-Rat 08-31-09 01:40 PM

I love taking people for rides in my car. I get all kinds of different reactions.

Rob XX 7 08-31-09 03:05 PM

the other night my car felt like a f'ing rocketship, another day on the highway I hit it and I was like "eh"

sometimes you just get more used to it, sometimes you are surprised, but no matter what 350-400hp on the street in these cars is more then enough, anymore and the road conditions do not let you wind it out to take advantage of more power.

Jimmy2222 08-31-09 03:13 PM

I only have an SMF reloaded and an RB full exhaust in my T2 and it pulls hard. My friends say it feels like an air plane. I can only imagine how yours pulls at 380whp...

Rob XX 7 08-31-09 03:14 PM

my coupe pulls incredible, but that is what 380ft lbs of torque does.
My convertible on the other hand has more power, but it does not feel like it pulls as hard because of the 100 or so less ft lbs of torque.

RX7withNitrous 08-31-09 03:59 PM

My fc with a t04 and around 15 psi felt crazy fast. I don't know what it would have dyno'd at but it felt stupid fast. Alot harder acceleration than my mkiv supra tt with 425rwhp. The RX-7's just feel violent.

pistones 09-02-09 05:07 PM

my TT supra feels really stable full throttle compared to my FC. the FC is lighter faster but it doesn't have the great mid range of the supra. I think it's hard to compare FC's to other cars even at similar HP levels.

j9fd3s 09-02-09 08:00 PM

my neighbor has a 10ae with a hybrid and FMIC, i think its around 300hp, since that's about 275 more than everyone else on the road is using, it feels like a rocketship. lots of fun!

more power wouldn't be as much fun, cause you're tripling speed limits, and having to watch gauges and stuff.

so to sum up, 300hp = fun, 350+hp = paranoid = no fun
