Ripped the interior out of my TII!
 

Ok I'll post pics tomorrow, but the whole interior is gone...seats, carpet..everything but the dash. I'm redoing the whole thing in black. It took me about 3 hours to gut the whole thing...not too bad. The seats are being replaced with leather racing seats. I'm going to try to have the carpet dyed deep black, but if I can't...where can I get a quality carpet for an 87 TII? Anyone?

Wow, so many people getting black interiors now. Now theres a band wagon I'd like to hop on.

I'm sticking with my gray interior. The exterior is black, so a few breaks from the black would be nice.

Black interior looks much better than the ugly ass colors Mazda used in a few FCs. Gray is bearable, but black looks really good.

Is it only the 4 bolts (2 front, 2 rear) that hold the seats in???

Black interiors get REALLY warm in the summer, I'll stick with my gray.

Although BRIDE makes some really nice leather racing buckets.

i think a black 7 with a tan interior would look very sharp. i wish i had the money to do it :(

Try finding a good used S5 carpeting. Personally, the Victoria British carpets are pretty crappy in my opinion in terms of quality.

Yep I got it! Loongg story though. I'll log back in after work and tell you. Bit of a nightmare, and a bit of luck. But I have it! The interior is first, then engine is going to rotary ressurection, some power mods, body kit, suspension, rims, and paint. It'll be a beast when its done though! Talk to you soon bro.

Then i found a presant left by my previous owner in my passanger door pannel. I had wondered why my car was dropping pieces of glass everytime I closed it.

That was only half of the glass, the rest I took the vacuum too, I got fed up with scooping it up.

Just shows you'll never know what you'll find while cleaning up someone elses mess. ;)

I love black but my car is already unbearably hot in the summer. Black with Grey interior.

I like the stock grey anyways. It almost has a blue hint to it.

Later on I might do Black racing seats but for now it's Grey baby!

My fathers Mini S has leather and I slide around like a mofo!

The seats don't really keep you though.

My GTU has some nice bucket style stock ones

Elfking...I was considering taking the dash out. After seeing those pics...**** THAT! I'm gonna cut around it and tuck it up. By the way I just got a molded carpet front and back from ACC...black cut pile. Should be nice!

I ****ing hated pulling my dash, whyd you do it elfking?

Ahh well I did it becuase I wanted one solid color for the interior instead of a grey dirty suntrashed dash... had some maroon defroster grilles and alot of broken plastic peaces all around.

I also liked the dark blue color. My other cars have grey interior.. The Starion I have has some blue parts in it, which looks pretty good... But a total blue interior did me in. That and well the price was great. Can't complain there.

I also wanted the learning experience of knowing how it was all wired up back there. And to fix the previous owners wiring jobs for the after market alarm system. As well as cleaning the ven't ducts and get rid of some of that dust trapped in there.

Its a hobby thing for me, I wan't to make the thing nice and beautiful, even if its a salvage title. The only way I see that happening is knowing the car very well.. and you get to know it when you rip the dash out... thats for sure. ;)

It wasn't that difficult.. Just took alot of time and a little bit of the: pull a little here, see why we're haning up... oh another screw... ok take it out and pull a little bit here... another screw. I also read a thread in the archives which had helpful info on yanking the dash.

The hardest part for me was slipping the carpet under the AC unit without taking the lines off and losing my pressure. I found that if I loosened the 4 nuts on the AC unit it would wiggle a bit, then if I folded the carpet up so the spot I wanted under the AC was all lined up.. Then sat in the middle behind the shifter I could kick real hard and force the carpet up behind it. It took some tries but I lined it up enough to have all the holes line up. I couldn't find an easier way. Without losing all my AC freon. Which I didn't want to do. Taking the carpet out... I lossened the 4 nuts and pulled up and back , as well as side to side a bit to make it move just a little bit, then be careful becuase if it cracks loose your going to fly into your hatch pretty quick.

For those interested in what I found an important thing to mention when doing it.. That and the metal dash top is very sharp and will cut you easily. Car -2 Elfking -0 I didn't want to use a screw driver at first becuase I was worried I might brake it, but after the first two cuts. I was just careful with the screw driver to pop the top metal off. Also make sure to take the top center cap off if you have it. then start the prying carefully....

Im going for blue interior with a dark blue exterior... It will look nice.... I can't wait... One day at a time though...lots of time...Its all good fun while restoring along the way...

Its not as scary as it seams... Just give your self a couple days to take your time and keep track of which wires when where... Take lots of digital pictures so you can go "Oh wait, that should have gone there" It really wasn't that hard, just took time and the right tools always help.. I kept losing my 10 and 12mm :mad: I need 4 of each with my luck.

It will give you a good understanding of things back there too, if your climate control motors go out, or a new speedo cable needs to be run... So don't just throw it away after seeing my mess. :) Unless you wan't to of course.

Dye it... I did mine a few weeks ago and it looks fantastic. Cost me less than $20 total. 3 bottles of RIT dye and a kiddie pool. If you want the details, I plan on doing a full write-up later on for my entire black interior job.
