rims wieght
how much should a rim with the tire wiegh together, there 16" enkeis with yokohamas
just wondering i know what they do weigh just wondering if there to heavy... they look a million times lighter than what i got on but they say other wise |
put them on a scale? how are we supposed to know what some random wheel and tire weighs?
|
more or less what the limit and what the normal weight of a rim and tire together.
i know them together is 48 lbs. to me that is hella heavy. i was hoping to lose wieght switching to them from my 18inch chromys |
I googled "lightest enkei wheels" and it took me 30 seconds to find this....

Thanks jeff. but i am asking for with tire.
in my opinion 48 each is way more than what i would want. alot of those rims say that they weigh anywhere from 10-25lbs, but without a tire on them. im going to say that mine say 48lbs each in the box with all the shipping stuff inside. now these dont look heavy at all and are alloy so is that too frickin heavy or not? (and jeff check out my enter skills, im getting better thanks to you) seriously and smart assidly |
^I'm confused by the shear generality of what you are asking....
You do realize that tires are sized differently and the reason they come in different sizes? If you look on the side of your tires, other than the brand and model you'll see some numbers and letters in sequence. Something like this: 225/50R16 How do they decide what numbers to print on your tire?? Lets start here http://www.tinytears.cc/Technical%20Tips/tire_size.JPG My very first hit on google after typing in "tire profile" was this: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=46 After reading that you will likely come to the conclusion that tires do in fact come in different sizes. With that realization you will likely determine that different sizes of tires will require varying amounts of material to manufacture said tires. Following this line of thinking would probably lead you to the outcome of variations in materials used and size of tire dimensions will alter the final weight of tires. Tying all this together, the end conclusion is that tires weigh different amounts. Another google search led me to this: http://www.miata.net/faq/tire_weights.html I've given you plenty to get started doing searches of your very own. And yes, you hitting the enter button after every period is a start towards using grammar. |
lol i have 225/50r16 exactly.
im asking if thats heavy for a rim with a tire, nothing more nothing less. they weigh 48 lbs in the shipping box from where i bought them from. just asking to see if thats good or bad for a rim. |
oohh nevermind, you make my brain hurt...
|
OK ILL REPHRASE THE QUESTION: what is acceptable weight for aftermarket rims and tires on a fc?
|
i don't think there is a real answer to your question duder. for the most part lighter is better because it will reduce unsprung weight on the suspension. but i don't think there is a limit to how heavy they can be. how much does one of your chrome monstrosities that you have now weigh?
to give you a reference point, i just weighted a gxl wheel with a falken azenis 205/50/15 and it was 37.5lbs |
damn right the first time.
thanks 3vil that was what i needed. i believe my chrome monstosities to weigh like 70lbs each. |
i would say a 15 lb. 16 inch wheel and about 20 lb for a tire, but like JustJeff was trying to say, all tires are different it depends if they are biased or radial ply, how many plies, steel or nylon plies, the size, and whether they are winter tires or DOT track tires.
oh yeah, almost forgot you have to take into acount the balancing weights, that can add up to about 3 ounces each. lol |
haha they are on now and are light as fuck.
they make me nimble |
|
There's a handful of posters lately that are giving this forum a bad rash.
|
I can't even find a 15" wheel under 15#. The lightest I have found (that is reasonably priced) is 17# for a 15"!
|
^ OEM vert rims are 11lbs
