Is this right? when warmed up temp gauge should be half on S5?
I had a S4 which ran about 1/4 all the time.
now I have a S5 and it reads 1/2 or just shy of that pretty quickly after start and doesnt really move after. drove 640 miles straight 2 days ago. never budged. I read post that said that reg. reading on S4 was about 1/4 S5 was about 1/2 that right? cause I just replaced all my antifreeze thinking the car run to hot compared to my S4. Mike Z |
1/2 is normal in an s5... at least i hope so because then i have a problem, but im pretty sure its normal

Pretty much, generally the S4 has a slightly more accurate guage. "Normal" temp reading on all 89-91 Mazda's should be around half. On 86-88 cars however about 1/4 ways up is "normal".
I never really pay much attention to the factory guage in my S4. Having installed a dash display unit from Microtech i use it's easy to read display to monitor engine temps and other various points. For those running factory equipment ECU, invest in a quality water temp guage, it's worth it in the long run. Regards, -Markus |
my s5 GXL is always just shy of 1/2, so I hope it's normal

my s4 will be at 1/4 when it is in the morning, but in the evening in florida weather with the ac going full on, it will get 1/2. is that normal? the car doesn't run different, and the coolant is fine (a nice appetizing green)

my S5 is always just a tad above 1/2 way...then again i also have an S4 engine...
whatever, stock temp gauges in anything short of a Ferrari are crap...i'm planning to get some Greddy ones that have a peak and warning light/sound feature. it's worth the $50 extra to get a temp gauge that warns you if it gets too hot...i mean, how often do you actually check that thing if nothing seems wrong? |
Thats what i get, 1/2 way ;)

Yah, as far as I've heard in an s5 its cold all the way down, normal in the middle, and overheating all the way up, problem is you wont know you're on your way to overheating until its too late :(
I have an s4 but I still invested in a nice water temp gauge. |
