RHD Jspec series 4 into vert FC help

Hey guys looking for some quick answers that I wasn't able to find a answer through searching.

I have a series 4 Vert and planning on picking up a Series 4 Jspec front clip, I'm planning on converting the vert to RHD and running the turbo motor and trans. My concern will be still being able to use US spec instrument cluster that way I can use my factory convertible top button and harness on the cluster bezel. Has anyone sucessfully completed the swap on a vert or with insight whether the harness is a separate or if I can use the US spec harness and cluster an retain the convertible top function. Will I run into any other obstacles in the vert platform compared to the standard swaps I have read on this forum?

Thanks

Greg

I know when I had my eg front clip my cluster worked fine. Like when u buy a jdm cluster and swap out the regular one. Maybe I'm missing something with the rx7s tho. I'm assuming you would only need to make sure that the cluster was the same make or whatever as the wiring harness...

Hmm..I wonder how you are going to take the whole firewall out of your Vert to put in the RHD firewall. That's pretty well what you gotta do.

I have assisted with a couple of swaps but never on a vert. I have a feeling the wiring is going to be plug and play being they are both s4 but hoping to get some insight, planning on picking up the front clip this weekend.

No need to swap the entire firewall, just cut/drill the holes needed to mount the brake, clutch, heater etc

Your body harness will not work if you swap to rhd because of the length, the entire wiring loom is opposite of LHD.
You will need to lengthen the wires to get to the cluster, the connectors and switches are the same though

good to know, I can def. lenthen wires if needed, any chance if the convertible function is in the body harness or can it be separated?

why not try to use the j-spec harness instead of lengthening wires?

the convertible function is in the body harness, the only thing in the engine harness is the wiper motor

Possibly not true.
On the S5 at least, the water temp sensor wire is also part of the EM harness.

This seems exceptionally weird and capricious as the sending unit is right next to the oil pressure sending unit which goes through the chassis harness but Mazda chose to run the H2O all the way across the firewall and then back across the top of the engine.
No idea why.

not on a s4

clokker 10-19-12 01:41 PM

Which makes it even stranger.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm picking up the from clip tomorrow, looks like I may document what I find and take some pictures

Picked up the front clip yesterday and it's looking pretty nice. Hopefully I can start teardown of my fc in the next couple of weeks. The front clip comes with abs and mine does not, looks like I may have to make some brake lines being I would prefer not have the abs.

ben.farnath 10-21-12 11:00 PM

Why do you want to convert it?

gregs22 10-22-12 12:46 AM

it's a preference, the few times using older style ABS systems was not a good feeling when being in conditions of ABS use.

ben.farnath 10-22-12 01:30 AM

I meant rhd conversion. I don't like abs either. It's intrusive when you know how to brake

After doing the research this route comes with everything needed in pretty good shape. I really didn't want to have a car sitting while I'm searching for parts. It honestly does not matter to me which side the steering wheel is on.

Eating junkfood by yourself is just sad!
So.. bring a friend and all problems are solved ;)

X2.
I'm sure the one that made a comment about "garbage food" drinks and/or smokes. Seems kind of funny how those who make healthy comments or comments about a persons potential eating habits are the ones that are living unhealthy themselves.

(But if you don't do either then forget what I said it was all just an illusion)

Ahaha

We have rhd fc3s's here too. Anything 25 years old has no problem getting through customs ahha. I actually just picked some stuff for my fc up from a guy who had a 1997 Sti imported from Japan. It was amazing to say the least. Funny thing is that he used it for a winter beater lol. Awesome guy, badass car. Not to mention the rotary he had in his miata.
