RHD Conversion ?'s
k im new to the forum but know my fare share when it comes to fc's BUT........... ive never done the RHD swap (trying somthing differant) but any ways i have a complete front clip from a j-spec and was going to cut out my old firewall and put in the RHD one , is this gonna be difficult or just time consuming ? Am i doing it the the right way compared to cuting new holes in my firewall and tring to relocate everything? but any advice would be helpful. If anyone has pics of the swap that would be really helpful so i know where to make the cut in the firewall
Thanks Parker |
Honestly if you have to ask, you should start with a smaller and easier project before cutting a car in half and welding it back together. :)
|
it sounds like he wants to replace ONLY the firewall...
|
IMHO Why do a RHD conversion?!?!?! It is alot work, it takes up alot of time and i dont doubt that it will be costly.
|
actually this is probably the smallest job ive done on the car i just make sure im doing it the right way before i get to tearing out the firewall , and the only reason i wana RHD swap it is because how many do you see around? its differant , trying something new

Sorry, I considered doing a swap like this....but its soooo much easier to just buy one |
I find it pointless on our cars.
Why do you want to move your steering column and parts over to sit next to a turbo? It would be such a PITA to work on the car. Oh and taking left hand turbs at intrersections gets dangerous too sinc you can't see the hidden on coming car. |
i dunno i just like it, its something that not many have done , and it does make it more jdm but........... thats not the only reason we are consitering the project. we just wana do it to see how it is. Can change it back if we want afterwards but i just wana try something new

oh yea this is a drift car not a daily driver , the other car we have is RHD also so i dont think we would get to confused
|
IMO i think haveing a RHD would be pretty neat. i know some people dont like it like stated in the ^above posts. IMO its not becuase its JDM or what ever doesnt matter if JDM cars were LHD it would still be neat to have a RHD just because it aint normal and it is something different.
|
well i didnt ask for a opinion. i was asking for advice. If you dont like the idea then you dont , i do and thats what matters
|
ok... fine some guy did a RHD conversion on his 10AE, look that up
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...RHD+Conversion also search Iceblue RHD conversion. |

also search Iceblue RHD conversion. |
see i wouldnt do the conversion on a 10AE. what we have is a 86 basic everything converted to s5 TII so if we mess up or dont like it we can throw everything onto another shell.

99.99999% of the people on this site have NOT done this (including myself because I think it's a pointless waste of time) so any advice you get is going to suck anyway. |
If he wants to be different, why doesn't he put the steering on the rearwheels with the steering wheel in the trunk..
and I have never seen a fc estate.. so that's also different and no so complicated to do too.. |
^ try not wasting peoples time reading your idiotic post
If you don't have a front clip yet theres a guy selling a few RHD front turbo clips in the for sale section That would make your project alot easier since you can just look at it and know what your doing. |
i got one that will be okay for the job but can you send me the link to those other front .clips just in case this comes out tits , if i like it then i might want to do it again
|
im one of them.. i have a full rhd s5 front clip in my back yard waiting for someone to buy it from me!
|
well i would say do it its not going to cost that much my buddy is doing it to his 3rd gen the only thing is its going to be time consuming you just have to change everything over you have to change your door wiring but other than that its cool and yes it is different i mean not that special but special enough for someone that dont see them all the time i mean how often do we go to japan? and i bet in japan a LHD is probably rare to them so do the only thing you need to consider is you need to practice driving on the other side and getting use to it but i say go for it if thats what you want to accomplish do it dont let anyone thing or anyone stop you
|
i did it as well.... it was a pain, alot of small stuff. computer is on other side, if you want to do it right you need to switch the windsheild wipers as well, its alot of cutting and welding... and good luck finding a carpet set! i just gave up and had a seam at the shifter its hard to pass people b/c you have to have passenger in the other lane before you can see if its clear. but people get scared to death sitting on the drivers side without a steering wheel.
|
driving isnt gonna be that hard on the other side since we have a daily drivin r32 from canada but yea i agree finding carpet is gonna suck , but i think we are gonna leave it gutted, and viper can yu send me some pics to lilsidewayfc3s@aol.com , and we are starting tonghtwith cutting out my firewall( not too tall with the cuts, just testing the waters)
