RHD Conversion

How hard is it to change a LHD to a RHD
and about how much does it cost.

This is one of those "if you have to ask..." type questions. It's very hard and likely fairly expensive even doing your own work.

its pretty easy if you have the parts off a front clip.. my friend here on the forum did it him self.. pretty striaght foward.. but he got reffed for it., and has to convert back to lhd....stupid cali..

just depends if you have tools, time and patience for it.

Plan on delivering mail, or you don't like to be able to see around cars in front of you to pass them safely?

Woah...wait.

Tell the story :) Really curious now.

That seems like a stupid policy... what ever corners were cut going to rhd, will most likely be trimmed going back to left hand drive.

What was their reasoning for making him go back?

What is the whole point of the RHD conversion?

In my opinion, I think people go RHD if they really feel more comfortable with it... Because think of it in the states your basically taught to pass on the left.. and since your on the right side of your car it makes things a bit difficult...

But to go RHD just to make it look JDM yo' is all your choice. haha...

Fifteen or twenty years ago (right when I was in the middle of my RHD British car phase) I may have ceded your point but thesedays, with the prevalence of SUVs and pick-em-up-trucks, you basically can't see shit, no matter which side of the car you're on.

On the bright side, I can now identify many vehicles by their differentials...

easy to do, but idk about dd the car. im 50/50 about doing so. at the moment im building a rhd sti in my shop from a gf8 front clip to a rs sedan its half way there but ya. fun.

Just curious. Do people in Japan or other countries even do Left Hand Drive conversion just to be different?

I've always wondered the same thing. Just imagine a japanese guy with a huge mullet, clamoring over an LHD '69 Camaro, and paying triple the price and waiting 6 months for an Edelbrock intake manifold .

Just a suggestion: Why not just buy a JDM FC??? I purchased an 89 TII JDM (RHD) last year and have been driving it (legally) for the past year. Let me know if you need help sourcing one!

thejallenator 10-25-09 05:11 PM

see tho you live in canada. shits a bit different here in the stats. it usually isnt worth the cost to buy one but rather just make one

farberio 10-25-09 05:13 PM

JDM vehicles cannot be easily registered in the US.

Otherwise the R32-R34 GTR's would be all over the place.

Turbo II Rotor 10-25-09 05:16 PM

GD ricers.

e36imagica 10-25-09 05:20 PM

In Canada you can import/register any car that's at least 15 years old. The only exception is the province of Quebec who are doing a study right now on RHD vehicles and have temporarily banned the registration of JDM cars until the study is complete. Damn government.

As Americans we know this. We have a 25 year rule ourselves.

If you have the cash you can buy my RHD converted car with lots of JDM rare parts...i want to start a new rotary project...i see you dont live to far from me...if you dont have much money i can just sell the whole car without the JDM stuff on it for a reasonable price.
