rhd conversion
im looking into doing a rhd conversion to my 86 rx-7. i cant find any s4 front clips so i was going to go with a s5 front clip but everybody that i have talked to around here says that s5's truly suck. the reason y is that everything is controld electroincly. like the oil pump. they also say that the wiring is completly different and i will have problems with the wiring matching up.wat is ur guys feedback on this. and yes i no the rhd conversion is going to be a bitch but one of my friends is going to help me and so far he has done 3 rhd conversions. so im not really worried about that. :Kill1:
well i cant help you but how bout you save your $$$ on the clip and do a 20b swap... thats what im going with =)
so what are you asking?
this thread is called RHD conversion... The S5 has good points and bad just like any other car...electric MOP isn't really a big deal... If you buy an S5 RHD front end, you may as well just use the WHOLE harness - body and motor. There's no need to try and hack them together - although if you can actually pull off the whole conversion, you should be able to wire the car. There are so many options though - go with a standalone for example. The RHD conversion is going to cost you more than you think, so if money is an issue, then you may as well shy away now. Whats the car for? |
yeah its pretty much costly just like the 240sx i have gets costly especially if charging u for labor and parts, liek at least 1500 if u can do it urself but be careful cuz u need to change the lines, need to reposotion the a/c compresser, brake booster, etc..but not alot of RX-7 rhd...

with you being so close to canada, for another grand you could probably get the whole car and swap from there. Then sell the shell back to someone in canada LHD swapped, lol.
why? this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. are you gonna tell everybody that it's JDM, when it is not.
no im not wanting to call it jdm i just like how its different. nobody that ive seen has done it to an fc. grantit there probley are people that have done it just not here in washington. and no im not going to do a 20b swap. i really dont care for those motors. and for a front clip i can get one shiped to my front door for under 3000. the car is getting made for drifting and autocross. im not caring for huge hp. just wanting something a little different from everybody else.
A 20b NA would be awesome for drifting.... RHD conversion offers NO benefit for drifting. Why not do mods that will gear your car towards your autox\drifting goals?
just cuz its still my daily driver and i want something that also gets looks.
its not an easy swap, easy as that. the wiring you have to do is absolutely INSANE. but yeah, good luck with that.

So, with that in mind... it doesnt make since to do the conversion if you are planning on racing it... It sounds different to me... and by different I mean dangerous. Even if you are a crappy driver, I would trust you more in a car that you are accustomed to.... But to each their own... |
yes ive drivin a rhd car many times my buddy owns a rhd converted 240. i like it alot i feel more comfortable in it. im left handed so to me i feel i shift faster anyways.i love sliding in a rhd car for some reason im more comfortable in a rhd car then a Lhd car.
i also am interested in the RHD swap. it's just to "gangsta!" to be rollin RHD in the states! why don't you just do the RHD conversion (steering column, brake master cylinder, dash, etc.) and worry about the motor after completed eh?
i was "this close" to doing the RHD conversion, but my engine pooped, and instead, spent the money on getting another engine... it costs so much to do a RHD conversion, that i think i'd rather throw a 20b into the car before i do such a thing... or if i win big playing lotto or any of that, RHD will come first! |
There is so much fail in this thread.
^^seriously...............i'm gonna risk getting banned..............but here:

We're done here. RHD conversions have been covered many times in the past. Just search for "right hand drive".
