revs up by itself

i got a prob, the car starts to rev up to 1500 and back down and up again by itself, i dont know wats wrong with the car. this happens when im stopped and idling. and the car idles at like 650 rpm, wtf is wrong with it? can you guys help me

possibly a vacuum leak

well the only time that did it to me was when I was tinkering with my idle adjustment screw. It was to low and first so I put it up a little higher (too high) and it would go from 1000rpm to 1500rpm over and over until I turned it down. however if this just started for you and hasn't been doing this for a long time then it may just be a vac leak. Go get some carb cleaner and spray it in the engine bay when the car is idleing if the idle increases when you spray it in a sertain area you have found the leak. Good luck

could be a vaccuum leak, or the gasket on the exhaust manifold could have a crack in it. THat happened to me a few years back, and upon replacing the gasket, the idle returned to normal.

O2 sensor as well. I have one if you need it.

Tps

Rx7 922 10-08-04 02:51 PM

for example im stopped at the light and the idle goes down to 600-650rpm and for sec later the car starts to rev on its own, i think i have a demon in my car

I think you have a shitty TPS sensor.

Try holding it in with your finger, and then applying and holding throttle via the linkage, if you notice that the problem is gone, you should replace the TPS. It probably has dead spots.

i found out wat the problem was. it was the tps plug that was loose, i just clipped it back in and it idles fine now. im so glad that is over now i can fix all the other problems, lol
