reverese v-mount effectiveness?
http://fcdrifter.org/gallery/albums/...l_DSC00004.JPG
saw this link in a thread and was wondering, even with the shine hood or a replica, how the actual effectiveness is of the intercooler like that. its like a reverse v-mount but no true flow. just looking for other opinions. |
Effectiveness is determined by the craftsmanship of the setup. Ducting, placement, and sealing must be considered.
In short: Poor quality, poor performance. |
I don't even see what's going on..
Intercooler looks like its mounted horizontal. Where's the radiator and oil cooler? |
but good quality doesn't necessarily mean good performance. having the radiator on top could be good though since it does radiate a lot more heat than the intercooler and heat does after all rise. so in stop go traffic you would see better all around temps im sure. driving at highway speeds though you wouldn't see much of a difference though.
edit, just saw the link and now i see that this is just a generic Vmount thread. search P.S. edit, just examined the picture more and that has got to be the worst place you could possibly put the intercooler. not effective at all. P.S.S. edit, sorry for the confusion lol |

That looks surprisingly like my engine bay IC and all...except my radiator is behind the IC.
|
i dont know how well that one works, it all comes down to ducting
|
ducting aside, feeding the IC already heated air couldn't possibly be more efficient or effective as doing it the right way.
Unless you had some crazy ducting system that could draw all the air the IC needed from in front of the radiator and oil cooler, w/o restricting their airflow............but if you could do all that then I imagine you could just do a V-mount the right way. ducting is the hard part, not mounting. |

Are u blind? The rad and oil cooler are right there just take a closer look. Craftsmanship seems ok but i dont know how well it would perform.
Didn't look closely enough. So using an electric fan to blow hot air from the radiator into the intercooler? The idea is similar to the OEM FD intercooler setup. But why would you want to spend the time to do this? Intercooler looks like a Starion IC with the pipes chopped. Looks like an aftermarket turbo AND STILL RUNNING the STOCK AFM?? I can't see how the intercooler is mounted but I hate to see that thing fall on the fan, belts, or pulleys. I'll give it a C for trying it, but an F for ingenuity. |
basicly the radiator is heat soaking the ic and with no ducting its usless.

i dont know if you guys saw the whole car, i was looking around and this is the hood if it matters ( im a noob when it comes to VMIC )
