resurfacing flywheel?

hey guys , I was reading another thread earlier and somebody wrote that there was a debate going on about whether or not to resurface the fly wheel. has anybody seen this? whats the debate? why would you not want to resurface the wheel? im about to take my wheel to the machine shop today so any input would be helpful!

The only reason not to is because it's a PITA to get off.

i was told to reserface it if putting a new clutch on, it if you dont it might not sit flush, and shake like a bastard, then you got to take off everyign again to fix it

I haven't seen the debate, but a few weeks ago there was a guy who had thrown an OEM clutch into his 7 and couldn't get the damn thing to work properly. I passed on some of his questions to my mechanic (who has worked on all 3 gens of 7 including a drag car) and one of the things that came back was *never* machine the flywheel. Every time that he has tried to use a machined flywheel the setup wouldn't work. He said to just buff the flywheel a little or hit it a litttle with sandpaper and then leave it alone.

He also said that he knew that there are plenty of 7 mechanics out there who would debate this up and down, but this is what has worked for him...

Hope that helps...

I took mine flywheel to Nappa and they turned it and checked it for heat cracks for 35.00 its well worth it !!!! It isnt that hard to do . You just need a damn good compressor and a good impact gun and off it comes with a little help.

i've already got it off a donor engine i had. It just took a 2 1/8 socket and a chain strap wrench to get it off. oh yeah a little wd40 and a blowtorch too. but anyway now what amur said contradicts what my rx7 guru says. what do i do some people say resurface...some say not to. whats right? I cant see why it would be bad?
