Restoring Taillights

going into the body shop pretty soon, to get a full paint job and everything, ill probably keep my s5 tails work on them while they're out.

how can they be freshened up/polished?

has anyone tinted s5 tails (i saw a couple of guys do their s4 tails), either the enitire light assembly, or just around the circles?

Easiest thing to do.....

Get them clear coated. Just use some plastic cleaners to remove gunk and then a good layer of clear to keep it that way.

Once I start to work on the body of the car I will tint my S4 tails w/ black but majority clear to keep them from being super illegal.

well one way to tint them is to get some limmo tint! actually you might wanna concider getting some plastic polish from 3M. ive heard this shit works wonders. one guy on the forum used it to clean up his FTP lenses. they went from yello and shitty to clear and beautiful!

back on the subject of tinting. after polishing your tail lights, get a good brand of 20 or 15% tint and some tint adhesive. apply as directed (onto the tail lights) and viola!! tinted tails!!

hope that helped!

Did yours yellow or something? If so try this...

Sorry I didn't take any pictures *even though I do have a digital, did this while it was snowing and well...wanted to do it fast*

Years ago, I had an SHO with yellow headlights. My Bronco was showing signs of the onset of this common Ford headlight problem. So, I searched my memory and remembered how I fixed it last time.

Pick up a bottle of CLR
Bottle of 3M rubbing compound
Hairdryer
Distilled water

Remove headlights (on 93?-96) headlights, remove the top screws, (2) 7/16" bolts from the bottom and remove turn signal/park lamp unit. Now CAREFULLY remove the two phillips heads holding in the headlight and then turn back the adjusting for up/down until the headlight pops free. I REPEAT ...be CAREFUL when removing the two top screws. They strip easy. I had to dremel new flat heads into the top to get them back in.

Now, after you remove the headlight bulb (don't touch), pull the unit out ....

Now, go inside and swish about a 1/2 cup full of CLR inside the lens for about a minute. Rinse with hot water until it comes out clear. Now rinse once again with the distilled water to prevent spotting. Dry with hairdryer.

Rub down the outside of the lens with rubbing compound (took me 2 coats to get it nice and smooth). Replace. It made 100% difference on my truck. Good luck!

no i just used the yello FTP lenses as an examlpe of how well the 3M plastic polish works.

I used Mother's Carnuba Wax. I applied It 3 times over and the results were nothing less than outstanding.
