I'm sure scans of them do exist elsewhere on the web like the '86 brochure you posted. However, its was an asset to have all this stuff at our fingertips in the FAQ rather than having to search for them anytime you need them.
Also, granted Icemark's tech articles were not necessarily the very last word on the subject of wiper or headlight switch rebuilding, but they definitely were worthwhile. It's often nice to read multiple takes on a project so you can decide what approach works best for you. I think when a site like this one stops having the resources it used to have and forces you to go elsewhere for them, it starts to die a little and becomes a little less relevant. I just don't think that's the direction we should want this site to go. |
^ there are free services like 'dyndns' that provide free DNS hosting. The only downside is you are limited in your choosing of (kind of goofy) domain names. For example: [your_user_name].[something_of_dyndns'_choosing]
Now the inability to unblock port 80 is definitely a problem. I would not mind hosting the information on my server when I get the chance again. 4 months ago, when I moved here from GA, they put me in company housing, and I haven't gotten the chance to set everything up,. Right now, I have to either go to work or the library just for internet. In 2 weeks, I will spend a couple months in OK for training. After that, when I come back here, I can get things set up once I get my own place. |

Before Firefox and the Foxmarks extension came out, I hosted a basic link page of everything I wanted on a foreign (School) computer. I'd dial in and leave my computer on all day hosting that link page and I'd just go to my dyndns page and see all my bookmarks in one little notepad written HTML file. Comcast sucks donkey nuts on a residential account. |

I know this isn't the most sought after document for the S5 RX-7, but I am willing to host the 1990 Owner's Manual in a .pdf format. I can't find it's existence anywhere else on the internet except for the links that are buried in the thread i made in 2008. I suppose it would be best placed in the "Manuals and Links" section of the FAQ.

Anyone finds an error or additional info, PM me with some proof (Link to documentation, old scan of a brochure, something...) and I'll edit. Also if you find something useful or handy to put in the FAQ or Stickies, let me know as well. I don't claim to be an expert, but I'd say that if we can compile enough data as a community, we can all be partial experts. |
I'm hosting it on my personal Linux machine. I have my dns hosting from dyndns. I don't have a problem with Aaron Cake hosting it (as long as it's okay with him). After all, his site has been up for just a bit longer than mine :)

I don't use things like Dyndns. My server is a quad processor 3 GHz machine running Win2K3 server with a dedicated ADSL link and a static IP with guaranteed 24/7/365 uptime and 24 hour local support. I run an incremental backup to tape every night, appending to the previous nights data. Each Monday that tape is erased and the process starts again. Every Saturday night a full backup is made to tape which is stored offsite Monday morning. The full backup tapes are on a 2 month rotation. So long story short, if it's on my site, it's not going anywhere. But a Gig or two of drive space? Really?! I don't see the sticky material being more then a few MB. |

Hard drive space is cheap. |
Backup space is not cheap. :) I guess I could still do it, but the stuff won't be backed up weekly, I'll just archive it to a CD/DVD once and for all.
