Replacing oil press., temp, fuel and boost gauge with aftermarket ones?
 

Has any one replaced the 4 small gauges in their cluster with after market ones? I was looking at them and they seem to be the smaller 2 1/16th size. Would it be possible to remove those gauges and install aftermarket gauges?

How does something like an aftermarket fuel gauge work anyways?

Even if it would be easy to fit new gauges in (which it isn't at all, and with the PCB on the back, I think it's impossible really to only replace some and not all), it would look ugly as hell having two different types of gauges. Also, is something wrong with the fuel gauge that it needs replacing? Sort of a waste of money gauge if you ask me, unless you are talking about fuel pressure. Basically it would only be "worth it" to replace ALL the gauges to make them match, and not have to deal with jamming in the gauges to make them fit, and at that point, your talking lots of $$.

Generally, an aftermarket fuel level gauge will require a new sender to match the gauge as aftermarket and OEM fuel level senders rarely have the same ohm range. The senders work in the same manner as any other fuel level sender, a float that moves with the level that provides varying resistance at different depths.

I'm about to do this in my Explorer. The tack doesn't do anything, and the oil pressure "gauge" is just an idiot light. I've done a mock up on the puter and it doesn't look bad at all. I'll leave the speedo and fuel. It looks good. Some may disagree, but then, they don't drive my car.
Really, if you wanted to, You could make an ABS plastic cover. Leave a hole for the speedo, you could get a new tach if you wanted, but with all new gauges and properly placed, you could maybe get two more gauges in there. Definatly one more.
Aftermarket gauges will be more acurate if properly installed.
