Replacing exhaust manifold gasket

Ok, i have my car half apart because I have to replace my leaky exhaust manifold gasket. My only question is this.........is it possible to pull the exhaust manifold without pulling the lower intake manifold? BTW: this is on and 87 TII.

Yes.

I thought so, I was just hoping to get out of this with as little work as possible. Thanks though.

I found out that the the exhaust manifold is probably not the cause of my exhaust leak after all. While feeling around to find the exact locations of all the bolts between the turbo and manifold I found that one is missing and another was just about to fall off. Both of them being on beside each other and towrds the front of the car. Once I replace them, this will hopefully cure my leak and I won't have to replace the exhaust manifold gasket after all.

Depending on how long it has leaked...

An exhaust leak can blow out an exhaust gasket. Remember , it is basicly a 1700F blow torch. That is a lot of work to find out the exhaust gasket blew out. I would replace it.

Yep, my N/A car messed up the gasket with a leak, so I'm sure a Turbo can.

Wankels right, it good to do it any way to check the condition of your manifold and turbo, I thought my gasket when out to a while back but it was the manifold had a bunch of cracks, it made my car sound like a dirt bike

That gasket is gonna be $$$. But if you have time call Malloy Mazda and ask for parts. If you say you are with the rx7club you might get a discount on parts....

They are in Woodbridge VA
