Replacing Entire wiring harness... Hard??
im looking at this 90 N/A that needs an entire wiring harness and ecu to be put in. the car is $200 do you think it will be very hard and/or worth it to get this car and intall a new harness? ive never replaced one let alone one on a rotary engine. i am mechanically inclined.

Its not too bad if your talking about the emission harness that comes out the passenger side firewall.

Yeah from what I understand there are really 2 harness's. One for the engine sensors that tie into the ECU, and then one for the gauge cluster, speedometer, tach, batt, temp, etc. From what I can tell, both of these harness's tie into each other, and are wrapped up together.
This is what I want to clarify, am I right? Or does EVERYTHING tie into the ecu, and then from the ecu it goes to the gauge cluster? thx |
There are 3 harnesses in the front of the car. One, which is the emission harness that plugs into the ecu with two plugs and comes out the passenger side and plugs all the sensors and sort, the seconde one comes out the ecu and goes behind the dash for the gauges and fuse panel and comes out the driver side and weighs about 40 pounds and goes around the whole front of the car, and the thire one that connects to the battery to the starter with that 80 amp fuse.

If you have a good replacement harness, and the old harness is still installed with all of its clamps and standoffs, shouldn't be hard at all. Just set 'em side by side in the car as you're working and go one clamp/plug at a time...

I really had a hard time understanding that. What exactly wieghes 40 pounds? When you say the drivers side, do you mean the CPU and not the ECU on the passenger side??????
*confused

not really 40 pounds but its about three times the size of the emission harness and a pain to take out. Goes from the big plug on the ecu to the fuse panel and thru the firewall and around the front of the car.

If you look at the wiring harness for the injectors, seloniods for the vac rack, water thermo sensor that is a fairly easy harness to replace. That harness comes from the passengers side of the car and pretty much ends at the selinoids, tps and air temp sensor however if you are talking about the one that comes from the drivers side I would think that would be pretty tough as it looks very integrated with the car.

i took out all the harnesses except the one on the transmission in two cars and swapped the good ones into the car i was keeping, the most pita harness is the main harness on the right drivers side
