Replacing Driver's side door handle

1987 N/A: Mine broke....no surprise there. I'm going to replace it with a good one I bought. Is it a tough job? How long does it take?

It's simple to replace.

-Roll up the window
-Remove the door panel (8-10 screws depending on the model)
-Snap the 2 rod connectors on the exterior door handle and pop the rods off of the door handle
-Snap out the black oval plug towards the back of the door to access one of the bolts
-Remove the left 10mm bolt on the handle (if you're inside the car)
-Roll up the window
-Remove the right 10mm bolt on the handle
-If you have security/ power pass. lock, remove the 2 or 3 wiring connectors

It may take 15-45 mins depending on how quick you can locate all the screws and what not. It's pretty simple and shouldn't require much skill.

Where did you buy a replacement? Mine broke recently, and I had to steal the one off of a project TII I want to sell soon. I stripped and painted it with fairly good success, but should replace the one I took before I put the project car up for sale.

Also, I replaced the key-slot light with white LED and it looks very cool. I'd be happy to explain how to do it before you put the new one in if you'd like.

Getting the rods back in place takes some finagling, it's kind of a pain but you'll get it after a few minutes of intense rage.

The "snap/swivel" rod locks are only difficult the first time...once you've done it, they're very simple.

Don't forget to transfer the lock cylinder if you bought the whole assembly or you need the key as well.

I found my drivers side handle on E-Bay for around $25.
My key is a little worn down but it worked in the new handle without replacing the tumbler.
