Replacement for factory HT18 Turbocharger?

Hello,

The factory turbocharger in my 87 FC has finally decided to give out, and rebuild kits aren't repairing it. I want to replace it with another turbocharger, but I'm finding a hard time finding refurb turbos. I'm sick of pulling the turbo over and over and don't want to buy a used turbo in unknown condition in case it fails again .

Someone suggested installing a BNR hybrid but I don't have any supporting mods and don't really care to run anything more than factory boost levels . Any advice would be appreciated.

How exactly did your S4 turbo fail? I'm trying to understand how rebuilding it wouldn't resolve the issue you're experiencing.

You can run the lowest level of BNR turbo and you will likely not notice much of a difference. I switched to my BNR after 2 failed rebuilds of the stock s5 turbo. The guy butchered it enough that BNR was my only option. Its a quality product. I still run stock boost levels. Stage 1 should take care of you.

yeah are there cracks in it or damage to the housing? Or is it just smoking?

I'd third what is being said. If you've been doing home rebuilds and it hasn't worked out maybe send it off? You could go with a BNR stage 1 or unless I'm mistaken Gpop Shop has experience rebuilding the HT-18 (really any turbo shop does but they cater to FC guys it seems)
