replaced AFM..sounds flooded? help ASAP
 

well i relplaced my afm sensor today and the car started up n stuff but sounded like it was kinda bogging down..i think this is normal im not sure..so like i let the car run for about 20min then went around and drove it..i could drive it but every time i gave it like a little gas it would kinda bog down..is this normal? i have my car runnin outside rite now hoping that if i just let it run the gas will burn away and it will be fine..i need help ASAP..thank u

Put the old afm back in and see what happens compared to the *new* one.

well see like my old ones wirres were all messed upside so i had the machanic sawderd the wires back and like he said they wont last long so thats why i bought the new afm..and like my cars runs and idles fine and i can like drive it somewhat but like if i push on the pedal to much then it like bogs down

If you soldered the wires IN the afm they should be fine. Unless your mechanic can't solder vary well. If its to much fuel, which its possible, but also possible the other way around, but if there is to much fuel, you could tighten the spring in the AFM.

Another check you could do is go under the hood and try to slowly press the throttle till you hear the engine start to bog, then manual try to push the AFM flapper open a TINY TINY bit and see if the engine come back to life at the throttle amount you are at. This would say you are running lean.

Tightening the spring would cause you to run leaner, and loosening the spring woudl cause you to run richer. Can't loosen the spring to much though, couple clicks and thats it, otherwise the flapper won't shut all the way.

Either way, put the other AFM in and see if your engine runs. Make sure both AFMs have the same numbers.

how exactly do u tighten the spring and where is the spring at? sorry im really new..thanks

Unbolt the AFM from the airfilter assy.

There is a cover made of plastic and has a somewhat *D* shape to it. Basically about 3" x 3". It has a bead of clear RTV around its edge holding it in place. Take a razor blade and cut the RTV, then put a Small common screwdriver under one edge and lift the black plastic cover off.

I'll stop here and let someone else continue. I'm not comfortable describing this unless I can attach a jpg of the afm guts. Can't do that now.
