Repainting my AE. Questions on Prep.

Well as most of you know the AE's are white only. Well I'm not big on white at all so Black its going to be.

I figure I am prolly going to try to do most of the prep work myself. I plan to wet sand all the regular body paint area's till its pretty much bare metal. (sugestions on this appreciated) But my big question is how do I prep the plastic parts? Do i sand the plasic? do I use chimical stripper? do I do anything to the plasic? are the plastic parts IE Bumper, spoiler, Etc. white painted or white plastic? Also .... what about the wheels? I like the style but I cant live with white wheels on a black car. are those solid white all the wat through? are the wheels paintable? ir should I just get alloy's

Thank You

Robert

CHANGING COLOR ON AE....WHAT..

You do realize that if you change it ,the color that is! It will no longer be an AE. B/C theres only one color for an AE and black is not it . but if you want black, just remember that you are the owner of a rare rotary!:(

What chemical stripper would you use? All the ones I have ever seen eat plastic like a dog with chew toys.

Like the plastic used in the mirrors or tail-lights... melts right away under most strippers.

If you paint your A/E black, I will come down from Canada and absolutely kill you dead! A/Es are WHITE and only WHITE and rare and getting rarer every day. Please either keep it the colour the rotary God intended or sell the car to someone who will.
Does anyone want to subscribe some $ to hire a hitman to take this guy out if he defiles his car as he plans?

WHAT!!!!!!!...

Your gonna "WHAT" paint it black "WHAT!" Anyway ,I really can't believe that you would even consider it... Well if you continue to have a brain fart the name of the stuff that you would use is called bulldog. It comes in a spray can,and it helps paint stick to plastic. Man,a white 10TH AE is sure hard to come bye...big mistake...

I'm looking at having my car stripped before painting it, what I'm looking into is a process developed for the aircraft industry. Due to the special nature of aluminum and the need for absolutely no distortion of the panels in question and the need for a perfectly paintable surface they use plastic chips!

No surface contamination and safe too! Maybe someone in your area does this type of work as well?

Guys!..its really up to him!..your not gonna be driving his car..atleast he's not swapping a V8 engine..

I have an experience with a paint stripper that i used to strip part of my quarter panel and that stuff really works good. I will get the name for you soon.

I do appreciate some of your lovely words of wisdom ƒº however this car needs a paint job one way or another. And I cannot live with a white car, I am putting WAY to much time/money/effort into this car to not make it just how I want it. It will still be an AE; just it will be a black one. VIN # will still say AE, stock original AE bra on the front will say AE, steering wheel will say AE, and so will the gold emblems on the side. I am thinking with all the gold on the bra and emblems that I will paint the ¡§mazda¡¨ emblem and the ¡§RX-7¡¨ emblems gold, the rest of the car all black. (kinda like the new lexus¡¦s look) Should be very nice looking and hopefully not rice looking.

Thanks for the striping input.

Just so you know, changing the color can be a bitch, and if your really anal, like me, it will never be good enough without lots of $$$. Things like the door jambs, hatch area, interior sections, under hood, etc... need to be color changed too, or it looks kinda odd.

If i was going to change the color on a car i would probably have to strip it down to a bare shell and repaint every peice, but then again, im anal.

Since your covering white with black, you shouldn't have to spend alot of time prep.
