Renesis > 13b?

**warning, This discussion is meant for N/A FC's only**

what are everyone's opinions on putting the RENESIS into the FC? Is it going to be a relatively easy swap? Will haltech be a must, or will there be a way to make the RX-8 loom work with the FC computer? I've been thinking about it and it would be a badass swap, considering my car only weighs about 2500-2600 lbs now, and would be less with that engine and some other changes.

Plus, it'd be a legal swap if you kept the RX-8 emissions equipment and took it to the smog referee! :)

Don't know about that, but the RENESIS for sure will not be cheap at all. You may be better off doing a TII conversion. Your wallet will be happier too.

FCdemon 04-16-03 02:19 AM

sure, it won't be cheap, but it'll be powerful and N/A. besides, doing a rebuild the RIGHT way on a 13B is over $2K.. and if I wanted to go turbo, I'd probably sell my FC and get a factory turbo'd one rather than hack the hell out of my car at great cost to me.

Dan H 04-16-03 02:22 AM

Yeah, I'd love to see a Renesis in an FC. 250hp + 2600lbs = yummy! :)

Oh, I might be worried about the tranny too. I think NA trannies are pretty weak.

I think that the renesis would be a sweet swap, but I think that it would cost as much as doing a 20B. And I would much rather have a 20B, then a Renesis.

i guess we have to wait to see details about engines bolting up to our transmissions or ablitity to swap renesis with transmission to FC....

The hell housings looked similar in pics I saw, but that means dick all.

Dude, you're talking about the engine from a car that isn't even available yet! No-one here is going to have half a clue about whether it fits or looms or computers or whatever, and neither will many people outside of Mazda Japan. Couple this with the fact that the engine alone will cost several times the value of your car (even from a wreck), and I think it's time for a reality check.

i guess me being a turbo guy and all, im in the wrong place, but id like to see what that trannys like and if it would be willing to bolt up to all the other 13b's out, if mazda was planning on 250 hpr then they probably built it pretty tough too and a new 6 speed would be pretty nice.....

projekt 04-16-03 07:19 AM

From what i've read the 6 speed is the same in the S15, and that breaks fairly quick (with boost)

Controlled by the factory ECU?

LMAO...the factory ECU for our FCs can't even for the most part get the 13B right.

Presuming they are "refining" the motor as they go along, it's going to have different engine mounts. Who knows maybe the sensors have different ranges of voltage/resistance. What about the tranny? Bellhousing matches? Great! Doesn't? Shit! New tranny mount, work to get the shifter in the right place, custom driveshaft.

There are oodles more too...
