removing the intake arm

ohkay so im looking to increase the air going into the engine in some desperate attempt to gain a little HP, has anyone ever tried just removing the intake arm and the cover for the air filter, so that the air filter is exposed under the hood? would this do anything for me? thanks

Your filter will be bouncing around, letting dirty air in, it will be sucking hot air out of the engine compartment... Just get a k&n drop in replacement, or if your feeling up to it get some kind of cone filter that rids you of that ugly plastic airbox :)
I wouldnt run mine like that, but hey, each to his own

Agreed

Yes you would have more airflow, but you'd be introducing hotter air and that take away from thewhole purpose of the cold air induction. Go with the kone style or hks superflow, whatever your liking. If you wanted, you could even route the pipe to the front of the radiator for colder air, just make sure you don't block the radiator to much. It could not cool the water efficiently enough.
