Removing air pump

what would be gained from removing the air pump? would i have to wire my auxilliary ports open?? i have an 86 na. also, i've seen some headers for rotaries without the fitting for the oxygrn sensor. does that affect the performance at all? whats the oxygen sesor even for?? thanks

well it will loose some wieght (Bugger is heavy) and you can get rid of yet another belt :D

And if you have catylitic converters you will clog them up w/ no airpump.

With an n/a my understanding is that removal of your airpump will disable the 5th and 6th ports.

yes...86-88's do not need the airpump for 6-port actuation. Although without the airpump, your cats will clog. One less pulley to steal precious rwhp. Plus you are removing weight of course. You don't need the O2 sensor, although will run a little rich without it, and get worse gas mileage...just check your plugs often if you don't have an O2 sensor. I drove around without one for a while and didn't have any problems.

You will gain some throttle response too. Make your engine rev quicker since there is less drag on it.

my question

So how would I Get my ports to work on my 89. They are different than 86-88. What if I take the 5 and 6 port sleeves out entirely will my other low ports still work. I have heard this before but never get definate answer.
