It would probably look better if you took ALL the trim off, instead of just the door.

nonameo 08-02-04 04:03 PM

I honestly think it looks like shit. If you take off the trim you need to make it look like there was never trim there in the first place.

KingCobraV9 08-02-04 04:06 PM

hummm not sure but take it all off or put it all on for sure

OverDriven 08-02-04 04:14 PM

Ghetto fab. Do it right and take it all off, and fill in the indention where the trim goes, then paint. Otherwise leave it on.

I would say you should either paint all your trim white, or paint the trim you haven't taken off so far white and bondo where the trim used to be so its smooth and doesnt have the indentation of where the trim used to be.

Crash Test Joey 08-02-04 05:38 PM

Yea.. put it back on

spot_skater 08-02-04 05:59 PM

mine's off, and that's how i got it

i think it looks okay :x

gxlspeeder 08-02-04 06:43 PM

seth, its ryan with the red t2, it would look better with all of it off, but better with all of it on

hengie 08-02-04 06:50 PM

hey guys if you want to take it all off you would need to fill up the gaps where the trim used to be right?

ddub 08-02-04 07:00 PM

You don't "need" too, but it would look a hell of a lot better.

ECKO1980 08-02-04 07:03 PM

i think it looks like your trim fell off lol

gxl90rx7 08-02-04 07:03 PM

I think it would look cool if you took all the trim off. It would look more like an S5, and it would have a cool indent all around. Do it

dr0x 08-02-04 07:03 PM

Why do people think taking trim off the doors looks good? It looks cheap and makes your car look like an old piece of shit.

nonameo 08-02-04 07:07 PM

actually... now that I think about it... I think the trim is molded into the bumpers... and thats why he didn't remove it.

86GXL 08-02-04 11:30 PM

yeah... i'd have to shave the sidemarkers and its molded to the bumper... My trim never stayed on the damn car... so i just took it off... i think it looks good... but i'm gettin the car painted soon and gettin a body kit... probly corksport... so we'll see what happens

hengie 08-03-04 09:22 AM

so what are you supposed to fill up the gaps with?

OverDriven 08-03-04 11:10 AM

You know, from the marks on your door, it almost looks like someone was scraping at the door for dear life as you closed thier left hand in the door and drove off.

Looks like you took your trim off... ;) Ick!

Paint it to match (all the trim) or leave it black, but that just looks goofy...

If you paint it to match, it'll give you an excuse to fixed up that goobered up door. :)

scheistermeister 08-03-04 03:45 PM

hehe, i like that term "goobered up". i havent heard someone say goober since i moved away from OH 7 years ago... much be a northern thing.

jon88se 08-03-04 03:49 PM

Worry about the dents/scratches in your door first ;)

WonkoTheSane 08-03-04 07:17 PM

i'm going to have to agree - fill it in, or leave it on :) The only problem is, you can't remove the mouldings from the bumpers (trust me, i tried, and failed!:() I'm waiting on my bodykit bumpers to remedy that mistake, hence why I have a bra on my car... It's also an 86 GXL...

cwsttu 08-03-04 07:29 PM

dont fill it in with bondo... it will crack and break after some wear and tear.. you will need to weld in metal strips and then bondo.... trust me i worked at a body shop and saw lots of DIY jobs went bad or not done right

Good advice. I personally used fiberglass, as I didn't have access to a welder.. The trick with ANY form of putty (including bondo) is to NEVER apply it more than 1/8th thick, Christopher is right, it will crack, and it will crack quickly.

Dltreezan 08-03-04 09:55 PM

looks like shit....dont fill it either or it wil still look like shit because you willl have the mouldings on the bumpers. Get s5 mouldings and s5 front and rear and you will be alright
