Remanufactured Caliper: Normal vs Hard Suspension
There are few remanufacturers and they offer different part numbers for different suspensions (or referred to as different rotors: vented vs. non vented):
MAZDATRIX - FRONT: same P/N; REAR Different P/Ns RAYBESTOS - FRONT: different P/Ns; REAR: different P/Ns These are all the same: CARDONE - FRONT: same P/N; FRONT: same P/N ARI (ACEI) - FRONT: same P/N; FRONT: same P/N BECK/ARNLY - FRONT: same P/N; FRONT: same P/N Would vented rotors be much thicker that normal suspension non-vented rotor? And consequently, pads in non vented caliper would be rubbing against vented disc? Also, any experiences with these brands? Thanks, |
Usually the way they these manufacturers distinguish between 4 piston calipers and single piston calipers on the FC is by using the hard suspension or soft suspension designation.

I have noticed that MAZDATRIX had two different part numbers for 86-92 rear single piston caliper: one P/N for vented and another P/N for the non-vented disc. However, only Raybestos has two P/Ns for them as well as for the front 4 piston calipers. All others do not.
So, if I get calipers from any source with single P/N - will there be a non-compatability issue? Thanks, |
I'm not sure I'm following your question, but the different p/n's for the vented and non-vent is because the vented rotors are thicker, therefore the caliper has to be wider at the pad "fingers". You need to get the correct p/n for the rotor you're using...
I think you already knew this, but I can't figure out exactly what you're asking... |
Hi Wayne,
My basic question is: why most auto parts sellers specify only single P/N for both vented and non-vented rotor? And this applies to most of them. Only Raybestos has two P/Ns for them. If I was to get a caliper from a single P/N source - it might not fit, right? ARI, Beck/Arnley (BA) , and Cardone do not have different P/Ns for vented and non-vented rotor calipers. Sellers on internet list the same ARI, Cardone and BA P/N for both "normal" (non-vented) and "hard" (vented) rotors. I got e-mail from BA advising they do NOT have seperate P/N for each rotor type! Mazdatrix has different P/N for raer only. They use sama P/N for the fronts. If the vented rotors are wider - how come most remanufacturers do not know that?? Thanks, |
