Remanufactrued Transmissions
 

Can anybody point to me place that sells reliable remanufactured transmissions for an 88 GXL 5 spd. Let me know if you have dealt with them and how it went in terms of service.

I don't think they sell them anymore honestly.

I got a rebuilt one from rx7world.com. It comes with new syncros, bearings, seals and whatever else needs replaced. I paid like $1200 shipped with a $300 core charge. It shifts very nice and is very tight. Couldnt be happier. Its the only place Ive found. I heard Pineapple Racing does them too but not for sure.

Take it to a tranny shop.

A typical rebuild will be between $750-$1000 depending on what needs to be replaced.

Years ago I had a NA trany rebuilt.

Took it to a transmission shop and they did it for $400 - replaced all synchros and bearings.

I DID save myself a lot of labor by pulling and installing the transmission myself.

If I had it to do again - I'd have bought a used one. They are still cheap and plentiful.

Ok I don't actually need a rebuild, I just wanted to get a rebuilt one to be safe. I actually need a different transmission so a used reliable one ( if I can even use those two words in the same sentence) would suffice. If I can remember to get some pics to show you guys, I think I have the wrong year tranny in my car, because the points to mount it to the tranny mount are different.

You can use an S4 or S5 tranny and it will work in either series ... as long as you have a matching tranny mount from the same series.

If your car is an automatic to manual conversion - then you will have to manufacture your own adapter.

Either I don't know what I'm doing or I'm gonna need to remember to take some pics to show you guys what I mean (I'm hoping it's me not knowing what I'm doing). Would you guys be able to show me some pics of what the tranny looks like mounted the car.

probably need a different transmission crossmember. from a different year.

how exactly do i connect the transmission to the cross member. because from the looks of it there isnt anywhere to hook it up

Theres a long stud that comes out from under the transmission, that hooks up to the crossmember which hooks up to the chassis with 4 bolts. Does the stud line up with the 4 holes on the undercarriage? If it doesn't then it might be an auto to manual conversion

If it is an automatic to manual conversion, is there a way for me to mount it up.

yeah you can go to rotaryressurection.com and look at his method, it works fine as far as safety but its no where near as good as stock. You will still have a lot of movement in the transmission, meaning your shifter will bounce up when you brake (even with new bushings). I'd be interested in finding any adapter that works as good as stock. I got a V shaped plate welded that connects the manual and auto crossmembers by a local shop but theres still more movement in the shifter than I'd like.
