Reliability? I am looking at this 89 Turbo II that just hit a 100k mark being sold for $3,400. It overheats at 85mph. I was wondering however if these cars a reliable, I am 16 and looking for a first car, I love the style of the RX-7s in a world filled with mustangs, however are they reliable.

They can be reliable if properly maintened

If it was me I would probably wait for a better car. 3400 for a turbo with 100k. From what i understand they tend to fail not long after 100k. And for it getting to hot after at 85mph.. he might have overheated it, and thats bad.

but thats just my .02 cents

I just got an 89 TII for $2800, and thats with a rebuilt engine 9k miles ago and 100k original miles. Perfect bill of health from a mechanic too. I'd search around for a better deal if I was you, especially if that one has overheating problems.

If it overheats, you don't want it unless you are prepared to put in a new engine or rebuild the one that is currently in there.

Simple as that.

I agree. Overheating = Bad for rotary

I think TII's can be reliable (not Honda reliable) as long as you leave them relatively stock and very dedicated to routine maintenance. Otherwise, the only other problems I see are FC's tend to have electrical quirks. These cars are around 15 years old already.

Yeh.. every time I take out my t2 it seems like something else breaks.


Oh well. :) Right now my right rear wheel is extremly hard to turn and is making a nasty grinding noise when it does turn... ew. ;)

Can't he just counter the heating problem with a better radiator and etc...

He could...but it might not really just be the radiator i guess. Couldnt it be waterpump and stuff like that too?

I just figured if the guy knew it gets hot above 85 he might have overheated it...and thats awful for a rotary especialy if its at 100k miles already.
