Recommend BOV

Still gathering parts for the Turbo swap...

I've never been a big fan of the HKS whistle style of blow off valve. Does anyone have a recommended brand that makes more of a quouff or chooff sound? Sorry for the onomatopoeia, but it's the best way to get the point across.

WingsofWar 11-01-07 03:36 PM

i like my TurboXS RFL, i dont if you will.

Ottoman 11-01-07 04:42 PM

the SSQV is the best BOV due to it's pull design.. and high/low valves

if u don't like the sound.. change the insert.. there's 3 diff types that make 3 diff noises

*edit* synapse units are also supposed to be the next Generation of BOV's and WG's but i have no personal experience with them..

phoenix7 11-01-07 05:57 PM

I'm with Ottoman. HKS is the best so far because it is less prone to leak compared to the oush-type BOVs. If you're going for sound over performance than pretty much anything will fit your application.

ZeroDrift 11-01-07 06:09 PM

Look into synapse engineering. They have a really nice design. I plan to buy one down the road.

Boosted11 11-01-07 06:16 PM

Blitz bov's fall under hks right?

Drift_Kid 11-01-07 06:16 PM

ive got the blitz on mine and it sounds awsome and is adjustable but will give you bad boost clap if you set it to hard

sharingan 19 11-01-07 11:01 PM

"boost clap" being what exactly?

willub and company 11-01-07 11:59 PM

i think he means compressor surge. i know what he means. my friend has a blitz. really nice BOV but if you set it wrong you can here the AFM door rapidly opening and closing with the compressor surge.

go with greddy type s

Jaime Enriquez 11-02-07 12:01 AM

Still like my Greddy Type-R....a good KA-CSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

re-rx7 11-02-07 12:04 AM

i also think hks will prolly be the best bov due to design.

LeeTheSlacker 11-02-07 02:05 AM

i hate blowoff valves unless theyre all tight and chattery sounding.

that said, purple insert ssqv makes the pew pew pew pew sound instead of PSHHHHHHHH.

i hate the psh. blargh.

phoenix7 11-02-07 03:46 AM

you can always remove the insert in the HKS for those in sleeper mode.

I don't want a piece of crap, I'm just trying to get a quality product that has something other than the shrill whistle I'm used to hearing from HKS BOVs, and am ignorant of whether it's caused by casing design or an insert. I've always been an atmo man, so my knowledge on all products relating to forced induction is extremely limited. But, that's a big part of why I'm doing this--I want to break out of my shell and learn something new.

I'll definitely be looking up the suggestions, I just wish the sites had sound clips. Though I'm eating up all the attempts at people imitating the sounds of their valves in this thread. How many have read through and spoken aloud each one; eh? Eh? I'm raising my hand.

So purple makes that reciprocating noise I've heard maybe twice, rather than a single discharge?

This is the cooles sounding BOV i have ever heard. Its HKS Racing type2. Looks similar to the SSQV.

^^^^

kick ass avatar!!

ive always liked my greddy type S
never got anoyed of it.

J-Rat 11-02-07 09:28 AM

TiAL for the win. Why pay more money for HKS crap that doesnt work?

Killert2 11-02-07 09:54 AM

BLitz is the best one i've had

rx7 FC TII 11-02-07 09:54 AM

i had the greddy type s. it was one of the quietest ones ive had but after a year it had a huge leak and i couldnt even hold an idle. i now have a turbo xs RFL and it is ungodly loud.

Aaron Cake 11-02-07 09:57 AM

Apex'I twin chamber. It's quiet and makes more of a "woosh" sound then a wistle or hiss.

sleepydave 11-02-07 10:04 AM

first choice: no bov
second choice: tial 50mm
third choice and my current: (was on car when purchased) greddy

xfeastonarsex 11-02-07 10:04 AM

I like the way the HKS BOV on the video sounds. The one I like best is the DIY BOV, sounds like an owl.

phoenix7 11-02-07 11:53 AM

pull type > Push type. Period.

Functionality > Getting attention

No. Purple makes it just a whoosh noise, the stock makes a whistle noise, and the gold is the same as the stock, but a different color.

The "reciprocating" noise sounds like you're describing compressor surge...

If you want a non-whistle sound that still sounds nice, get an HKS and a purple insert.

APEXi BOVs are in short supply unless you can find someone who has them in stock. They are in the midst of a redesign and have been for almost a year. From what I have heard from many of my distributors, don't hold your breath. As APEXi is having a lot of money troubles lately, it might not even happen this, or next year.
