recharing A/C after system disconected for a long time
 

So my ac has been disconnected for a long while as in several months (as in the compressor has been physically out of the car, the rest of the system is intact)

I have five cans of R12 on its way thanks to ebay (an the online refrigerant recover course) yes I know it should only take 2 cans.

I know I need a new receiver/dryer and that the system has to be vacuumed for an hour or more.

I bought the Harbour freight venturi AC vac and have a compressor big enough to keep up with it.

What else should I do..

Should I replace all the o rings?

Any other parts that should be replaced?

did the system have pressure when you removed the compressor? if yes then your orings should be okay. if there was little to no charge then yes? Does the ac compressor still spin smoothly and is there still oil in the compressor? Did you get a/c compressor oil too? and after the whole system is reassembled it need to be pulled under vacuum (i cant remember how much and for how long off the top of my head) to make sure that there isnt any water in the lines. and yes it is recommended that the reciever/drier at least be replaced, some places/people are also going to recommend a replacement expansion valve. hope that helps, ill be redoing mine in a few months too, good luck. total system capacity is 1.5-1.7 lbs. of refigerant and 7.8oz of suniso 5gs or equilvalent refrigerant oil.

You can obtain this solution called "A/C system flush" [or something along those lines], from most auto parts stores. I did that on a car that didn't have working A/C for about 10 years.

I would replace the o-rings, they are cheap and you will be avoiding future problems.

Putting the system under a vacuum for about an hour should be plenty.

Where did you get your certification? I need it to get R 12. All of my rx7s need it. A/C FTW

there is an online test, I think it came from a link icemark posted, It was about 10 dollars.

the ebay retailer did not ask for the a/c recovery number.

I believe for the ones that follow the law you can usually say your purchasing it to re-sell to someone else and its all legal.
