Reccomened oil for a T2?
What weight would you reccomend for a almost stock T2?

I run Castrol GTX 20W-50
Although my car isn't stock... I am very sure you can run 20W-50 with no problems. Also, if you're going to use synthetic oil... go with Royal Purple. I have heard good things. |
There is a chart for what weight you should run dependant upon climate in the FAQ I believe. I run royal purple 20w50 in mine year round, but I live in a hot climate.

Turbos have more of a reason to go synthetic because of the greater heat and pressures the oil has to put up with. All the synthetics listed in the FAQ are crazy good, though I lean towards Royal Purple myself. But the main problem here, IMO, is an excessive focus on oil when it won't make much of a difference. The real problems you migh run into are overheating, detonation, poor compression from wear and/or carbon buildup and a spun bearing from no oil or oil breakdown. Carefully maintain the cooling system and turbo components, tune conservatively, use quality detergent gas & oil, rev the engine regularly, always properly tighten (but w/o overtightening) your oil drain plug, check for and quickly address oil/coolant leaks, use synthetic oil on track days, etc. |
I don't have a turbo but I've been running 10w40 for the last 9 months or so. Used to run 20w50 but switched. If you want to run a thinner oil than 20w50 I prefer 10w40 over 10w30 in the Rx7. 20w50 will be fine though. In the heat in OK. it would be better than 10w30. I think I may have gained 1 or 2 mpg since I switched.

Eric, you do realize that some people in the states live in places that have climate changes? Where I live (Iowa), we get into the high 90's during the summer, and as far down as -20 degrees in the winter. So yes, there is a point of running a thicker oil during the warmer months and a thinner one during the colder ones. I'm not saying we have heat waves, but we definitely have blizzards. :) |

I live in canada, it gets up to 40 degrees celcious and which is neear to 100-110 feirenheit, Something around there neway. in summer. and -30 celcious in the winter. so thats like -101932847239843 feirenheit. HAHA dont mind my spelling k thanks. and yeh i run 20-50 and 10-30 |
