rebuilding a entire S4 TII rearend...
 

Not happy with my crappy non turbo rearend swap. Id like to rebuild my s4 tii rear. I cracked it open today and well i dont know if its rebuildable. 2 of the 4 spider gears are missig chunks on every teeth and have slop to them. Ring and pinion have no uneven wear or chips, looks ok. How it didnt blow during the past 10k of crazy noise amazes me. Every bearing and race is removed besides the two i left on the diff itself.

I have not seen spider gears for sale before, not listed on mazdatrix if i recall or even if they can be removed? I want to rebuild the entire rearend. The internals as well as replace all the bushings and mounts. I pretty much redid the entire front end and now its time to rebuild the rearend.

Lastly this rearend is alittle strange. The driveshaft flange is 100% t2, the half shafts measure at 6" 1/8(not like listed on mazdatrix) BUT the n.a axels i bought mate to them AND the half shafts from my n.a. I was aware only n.a axels mate to n.a half shafts and t2 axels mate to t2 half shafts. How am i able to have mine fit both?

Not worth it IMO. Have you seen the price of a rebuild kit? :scared: Best bet.. hit the classifieds and hope for a low mileage functioning unit.

Yeah im tired of that option. I think its stupid how we have to rely on low mileage units. God knows that isnt going to last much longer. If i can have a 0 mileage entire rearend besides axels for somehow a fair price i would be very happy. Someone once told me you can source specific size bearings for cheaper than a stealership. How true it is i dont know. I see the bearings have koyo written on them. Maybe i can find a source that is cheaper then friggen $50 a bearing! Low mileage turbo rears at $400 + shipping? I rather have entire rear rebuilt for the same price, excluding rebuilding the clutch plates and new bushings of course.

I dunno, I thought they (used) went for $200-$300 in the classifieds. A rebuild kit is $450+ right? Who knows what else you may need... And that's just the kit.

Thats just the thing. Is it really worth saving a little money on a used rear over $100-200 on a brand new rear? I cant rely on people saying "yeah bro it has 30k from jdm land" Was it drifted, dragged or daily, we wont know for sure. Low mileage units cost me $500 shipped, im not down for that nor can i even trust it to last. Id like to hear from people who have a ton of knowlege of rebuilding these rears. Can spyder gears be replaced? Whats my deal on my half shafts? Any source on bearings besides dealers? Ive grown fed up with rx7s how its either buy used junk or get even more ripped off when you must go to a stealership. Im sure its because im not a baller and thats why i shouldnt own one anymore.

Soft parts, like 8 years ago cost me $250-300. With hard parts you might be better off buying another one or even aftermarket
