Rebuild Time

Well, I recently bought an 86 gxl ran awesome until a heater hose went and it slightly over heated. Lately I've been noticing my coolant is disappearing, no smoke out the exhaust or leaks, but I did notice my plugs on the front were some what white. I have not had any starting issues whatsoever. So I think I busted a water seal.

I plan to do a na to turbo soon.
I have most of the stuff I need for the conversion but need to pick up miscellaneous things but will most likely be doing the break in period as NA

My question is should I street port the motor? Is it really worth it to drop the $400 bucks for a port job for the hp gains?

Heres a list of what I plan on doing when I turbo it.

BNR Stage 3

V mount set up
R.tek 2.1

You don't HAVE to rebuild it, you can run Red Devil or Block Weld through the cooling system and it'll seal up any leaks without gunking up your cooling system. Usually works for coolant seals that aren't completely shot. Research the topic on Rotary Ressurection's website, he has a write-up on it.

I wouldn't port the engine if it costs that much unless you want to shoot for 400whp+. Do cut out the exhaust diffuser or switch to TII housings though.

Hmmmmm, I thought about doing the block weld, but to me it feels half assed.

There was a guy that did this and tore apart the engine a while later and claimed he saw no gunk or residue in any of the coolant passages. You can search the topic to get more info.
