Rebuild, Or Reman?
Im trying to figure out which would be best. A remanufactured motor, or rebuild my TII engine. Here is my questions
1. Where are the best places to get a quality remanufactured motor? 2. Who sells quality internal parts for these rotaries at a good price? 3. What brand Apex seal will last the longest? Thanks guys! |

What are your fees to rebuild my engine? How much is a streetport, and what kind of HP gains can be expected from streetporting?
Do you have a cost list of what extras would cost? Like if one of my rotors/housings were unusable. Just so I know what to expect. What type of warranty do you provide? Basically what I want is a stout S5 turbo engine. Nothing radical. Probably stock turbo for the time being. Just want to gain some cheap horsepower. Edit. When I said "Rebuild or Reman" I mean Rebuild - Rebuild my existing motor Reman - find an already rebuilt motor and put it in my car. I know mazda sells motors, but i didnt know if there was anywhere else to buy a prebuilt drop-in motor for my car. |

I know mazda sells motors, but i didnt know if there was anywhere else to buy a prebuilt drop-in motor for my car. The smaller setups, including myself, don't do it this way. Instead, I wait for you to call up and tell me what you need, then I tell you to send me your core first. I take it apart and tell you what is wrong, and what it'll cost to fix, in addition to the "base price" I have listed. That base price assumes your core is fully rebuildable; if not, extra charges come in on a part-by-part basis. This allows me to control the ratio of good to bad parts coming and going, rather than going at it blindly like the rest. It also rewards those with clean buildable cores, and penalizes those who send in junk. Finally, it keeps costs down for everyone, since I'm not having to raise prices because of junk cores being returned. Finding, buying, shipping, disasembling, checking and cleaning core parts is expensive and time consuming, so it's an advantage not to have to pre-build rebuilds ahead of time all from my own parts; it's easier to come up with one or 2 replacement parts for someone else's core, than it is to come up with all 8 and build one from scratch. Not to mention the up-front cost of seal kits that'd have to be invested out-of-pocket by me, and the fact that I stay behind and would have no way to build engines ahead of time. |

Your nick implies you have an NA. Are you trying to put thios 13BT into your NA? Or do you have another Turbo II chassis? Edit. The (Mazda) reman engines are basically a Mazda factory "rebuilds" using some used and some new parts. -Ted |
Hi ted, I recently purchased a 90 TII that needs the rebuild. The NA runs fine.

I don't know where exactly you reside in the Midwest, but there's an EXCELLENT rotary guy in SW Missouri.

Just crate the engine to rotary resurection and be confident that you'll get a quality rebuild with a decent warranty at a kick ass price.
I live in Colorado and would send a blown engine to Kevin. Unfortunately for him, my current FC has 25k on the odometer and it'll be a very long time before it'll need any internal work. |

Whats the shops name in Missouri? I am in Kansas and it might be cheaper to ship it or drive it to missouri. |
Rotary Doctor - 417-451-9661.
The guy's name is Kyle. He does excellent work, and is pretty reasonable on prices. Give him a call, and tell him Justin Kimbro sent ya. :) |
