Rebuiding help?
I have a rotory that i think has a bad front rotor. Is there any way of taking the front plate off and replacing the apex seals and all other seals on the front rotor without taking the whole motor apart. I mean the back rotor has perfect compression so i don't think it needs new apexs or seals. If i could fix the front that would help me in my money situation. Thanks for your help.

no. everything has to come apart. there are tension bolts that run the entire length of the motor.
even if you could it would be false economy. you'd just end up having to do the other rotor later... again if you could.
No.

juss take out ur engine, rebuild it, clean ur engine bay, put ur rebuilt motor in and u got a nice clean engine wid a engine bay. its a win win situation
i had a qustion about rebuilding if i bought a s4 and rebuilt the engine could i replace the 8.5 rotors with the s5 9.0's ??
With the matching front counterweight and flywheel, yes.
what the actual problem with puting the s5 motor in a s4 ??
so then it would just be easer to cahnge out the rotors and up the compression.
but if i do that how much p can i expect from an increase in compression ? |
some nominal amount, especially with the s4 intake set. iirc the main reason s5 na's make more power is due to electronics, VDI, and intake differences.
the best part about s5 engines is the quality of the coating on the rotor housings. less prone to flaking and other damage, so they keep higher compression numbers. |
theres this place that deals in rx7 its called rotorsports its not to far from where i live and they offer a type of coating from Calico for several parts including the rotors. i thought if i could a turbo 2 that it would be a s5 or i would up the compression and have the rotors coated before placing them in an s4
huh? i don't understand what u mean
oh, and by coating i meant the wear surface of the rotor housings, sometimes called "chrome". you're thinking of anti-heat coatings for non wear items... not the same. there are places that grind, recoat and resurface the rotor housings with cermet coatings. |
ahhh ok i gotcha now
thanks for your help. i'll keep you in Rotory Ressurection if i decide to get it rebuilt.
