Reason #4857 to not buy jspecs...

This is how my jspec arrived at my door.
I bought this just to throw in my tII for a grand total of maybe 3 monthes, then I was going to rebuild and sell this. I just needed my tII out of my friends moms lawn and to rebuild that motor which just has bad oil seals. But it doesn't even look like I am going to be firing this up without a new rear iron anytime soon.

Pfft, whiner  I ran an engine like that for years <--- no joke :)

But this isn't a reason to not buy a J-spec. Its a reason not to buy ANYTHING sight un-seen.

But seriously that won't give you any trouble.

Edit: question though.....if it was broke when it got there, where'd you find the piece?

RoughRex 05-31-07 03:59 PM

^^+1 what he said

See the bolt hole, I found the piece right there, sitting in that spot, cracked all around wiht a bolt going connecting to the tranny.
Whiner nothing, sharer is more like it.
I don't see one whine, just dissapointed that I didnt even get complete parts. When you buy anything, would you still happily pay seeing that upon delivery it is severly damaged to the point of missing a piece of a major component? This is business ethics 101 not whining.

Just get it welded up there again. No biggy since the engine is out of the car.

One of my J-Specs came with a hairline crack in that same spot (not broken all the the way though). The Motor still runs like a champ and has great compression.

But don't sweat the little broken ear, no biggie.

sarcasm doesn't travel well on the interweb :)

That ear being broken won't hurt anything. There are plenty of other holes to hold the trans securely to the motor. As long as no oil passages were compromises it is not a problem. I would not even weld it up.

On the plus side, it looks like this jspec has the fattest of the 3 rear reinforced irons.

Really? With all the people telling me I am going to be ok, my gut still says there is a gaping hole going into my tranny. I'll have to look over it some more to make sure it's not damaging any of the oil passages, noob question: can i just pour a little oil in the filter pedestal to see if it will come out by the crack/break?
At the VERY least pack some jbweld and rebolt the piece?
And I will be ok? I am not pushing much, <~350whp, but still more than stock.

yes you certainly will. But it won't affect it.

Probably not. But if the rear iron is cracked, you should see some seepage around a VISIBLE crack after you take the tranny off. It should stem from one of the tension bolts (if the crack is there)

Sure if it makes you feel better, but it won't do much other then look like you JB welded the ear back on.

Good to go man. I ran like that pushing the max out of the stock turbo. I beat the living bah-Jesus out of the car daily. Ran low 13 1/4's with it. Never any issues at all.

Actually you'll have a small hole into the bellhousing, which already has two massive holes for ventilating the clutch. :)
