Rear suspension response to Ebrake Question
 

Maybe my FC is totally crazy, but...

When I yank my e-brake while moving, the rear suspension tilts the car forward/back to prevent nose/tail dive.
For instance, if I am moving forward at all, the rear will drop significantly when I pull the e-brake. Usable to achieve a rocking effect if you hold the button and move it up and down rythmically. When rolling backwards, a pull results in a lift of the rear to the same effect.

Do all FCs do this?

1988 SE, suspension completely stock (from what I can see)

Pulling the handbrake doesn't cause the chassis to dive significantly.  It has nothing to do with the rear suspension.

your suspension is probably shot.....

Dude ALL cars do this, squat when you have the handbrake on and apply power.. It's just the suspension binding up a bit. (I Guess??...)

Its a very funny thing to do(also pretty bad for car and clutch) at a set of lights, pull the handbrake on and just let the clutch out until the back squats, push clutch back in and continue until you have achieved a rocking motion while not moving forward...


Never really tried it in my Rx-7, but my old suzuki swift used to do it the best. :D

Edit: oh you were talking about while your moving already and not applying power.. yeah thats a bit different, probably worn suspension... maybe from idiots like me doing the above 'thing'

I'm not talking about under power. I'm talking clutch out, car out of gear, just sitting.
Car rolls back a little in my driveway, maybe .5mph, pull the ebrake and the rear lifts significantly. Release and she falls to normal height. Pull, rise, releaser, drop. Do it fast enough and the car will bounce a little.

....I hope I'm not crazy.

As mentioned, all cars do that. It's perfectly normal so stop worrying about it.

...I've never noticed any other car doing that. I will check my AE in the morning, but I doubt it does it.

Drive up a hill and stop. Pull on the handbrake. When you lift your foot off the brakes the rear of the car will raise up a bit as the weight of the car settles onto the rear brakes. When you release the handbrake to drive up the hill, the rear will settle back down as you start to move forward. Quite normal.

the only thing you may have wrong is old/tired shocks/springs which would make your car dive/lift more than it should. the direction your car is torquing is completely normal for the way you are applying the brakes.
