Rear Strut Tower Bar Installation
I just got my Corksport Rear Strut Tower Bar.
http://www.corksport.com/rx7/pictures/2rx3206.jpg For those of you that have done this installation, what is the best way to go about it, and what is the best tool to use to cut the notch or hole for it? Thanks |

I used a Dremel with a lot of the cut off wheels.

I have some pics and a write up on my site. I ended up just using a pair of side cutters like a can opener.... it doesn't look too good but you can't see it anyways. I don't have any grinders etc. the metal is very thin.
|
ooooo, i'm planning on getting that too by the end of the summer. post pics if u can after the install, and let me know how it is like quality wise and difference in the handling puhlease.
also, i would just use a dremel drill like the others have said. |
Well, I used a Dremel and about 20 heavy duty cutting wheels, but I was successful.
As far as handling improvements, the thing is awesome. I will post pictures sometime if you're lucky. Use AOL IM and remind me to take pictures. |
will it fit on the verts?

here is the install of the Cusco Carbon Fibre strurt bar.
bar install I used a dentist drill with diamond bit to cut out my wholes. or was its a air powered jigsaw. |
does Cusco make any other strut bar for the rear besides carbon fiber? Maybe like an aluminum one like the front?
|
87GTR, is it just me or are your tires on backwards? :)
|
I installed the Mazdaspeed rear brace and didn't have to cut anything.

Fedrex,
?? Did you have rear speakers on the shock towers? Otherwise I don't see how that would work. Unless you mounted the strut brace to the top of the speaker mounts, which aren't really strong enough for this. PaulC |

PaulC There is a piece for each side that is C-shaped that mounts on top of the shock mounts inside the shock towers, this piece has a vertical side to it that meets up against the inside of each shock tower. The piece then fastens to another vertical piece about 2"x5" on the outside of the towers and carpeting. These 2 vertical pieces essentially sandwich each shock tower wall and the brace arm mounts between them. It uses existing holes in the shock towers - all you do is punch/drill a couple small holes in the carpet for the bolts to go thru. |
Hey vaughnc,
How did you get the bottom bar on? Were there existing holes? Charles |

87GTR-
With the addition of the front lower K-member support did you notice better handling? The blue bar just below your downpipe. I just got my K2RD.com coilovers with AGX's, caster/camber plates, and rear camber link. ALso some 245/45/16 S-03's for the rear. Next on the wishlist is the rear struttower bar and possibly the front lower Kmember support like you have. Oh yeah..... and where is your cat on the exhaust? he he he What size AO32R's are on your car? Did you use spacers for only up front? What size spacers did you use so that I can finally write this down. GNX7 |
87gtr what kind of exhaust do you have
|
Wow.. learning something new every day :) Thanks Fedrex :)

you can tell a differance with the bar on. if you ever put one on you will say dang why didnt mazda do this in the 1st place. I mean there are 2 holes for the bolts right there.
