rear strut to hub bolt loose?

Hey guys,

I just installed a set of double adjustable konis on the rear of my FC and when I torqued down the rear bottom bolt it bottomed out but the conical washer that holds the strut down is still loose. I can spin it by hand.

Has anyone else experienced this? I could just slap a washer or 2 on there... but I'm curious as to why it's a problem in the first place.

Mazdaspeed makes a different bottom bolt thing made for konis, but it says it's a different diameter, not length, and the diameter is fine.

Thanks.

Only on one side, or both?

both.

Is there supposed to be a lock washer between the bolt and the large washer?

I looks like there is one in the FSM, but when I looked at the microfiche (2800) it doesn't have one listed...

I test drove it today, and am getting a definite rattle from the back.. hopefully that's the cause.

Put a washer in between that Big ass conical washer and the bolt head,,that will tighten it down a bit.
I think what has happened is the coil sleeve that goes on that PIN is a bit longer on the stock shock as opposed to the new Koni that you have.

I concur with misterstyx69's solution. Where did your lower shock studs come from? The stock studs will only fit the Koni shock eye if the diameter is cut down. If your stud fits it must have been modified.

If adding a washer solves the problem, then that's the best answer. The D/A Konis sleeve may be slightly narrower than the S/A yellows (as stated above).

They're stock lower shock studs and the dampers fit over them fine.

I think they were originally koni 8041-1111s (FC OEM fitment koni yellows) that were then converted to double adjustables. Not the Porsche 914 koni yellow 8241-1050s that require the mazdaspeed special mounting stud.

I'll throw a lock washer on there. That seems like the fix.
