Rear pads v-clip a must?
What does the v clip on the rear brake pads do? I am assuming its neccasary to have

If you are talking about the top spring that goes down into the holes in the top of the pads..... There should be two per rotor. The keep the pads from rubbing on the rotor when the brakes are not engaged. Its necessary to use them because the inner piston "Corkscrews" out as it self adjusts, therefore, if you put rtv or anitsqueal on the pad, it can hinder the movement of the adjuster or simply be torn apart as the adjuster turns

^ yep damn things are like 5 bux a piece at mazda.... was putting one of those springs back in one day and boing,, dam i said.. so had to buy a couple.... ended up getting stuck in my foot couple weeks later...
