Rear Engine Oil Seal/ Pilot Bearing

Anything I need to know about changing this sucker? Obviously, the pry bar, a chisel, a really big hammer and a block of wood, but I'm hoping there's someone with some practical experience and a couple suggestions before I attack this.

Also, is there a better way to attack the outer race on the pilot bearing besides the drill and bolt method?

Please and thanks in advance.

Go rent or buy a pilot bearing puller, it'll make your life much easier. Use a 14 mm when you tap the new one in so you dont hit the bearing directly. The rear main seal was pretty easy to get off, just stuck a small pry bar and it popped out. Took a small hammer and tapped in the new one. Just remember to be carful with these, dont scratch anything or you might have leakage or a spinning bearing on your hands. And good luck.

Pilot Bearing Removal

I found many times the needles were gone from the bearing. In this case I used a carbide die grinder to cut a slit most of the way through the race and then a flat screwdriver and a hammer to deform and remove it.

if you rent or buy a pilot bearing puller your gonna have to file the edges down cause normal pilot bearing pullers are to wide. that unless you buy the one from atkins rotary. but that 20dollar one and a file works just as goog and will save you 100 bucks or more
